OpenTTD 1.0.0-RC2

Post by Rubidium »

Today we have released the second release candidate for 1.0.0. This is the first release of the 1.0 branch using the new title game you voted for.

This release can, as always, be found at: http://www.openttd.org/download-testing/1.0.0-RC2

We would also make you aware of the following topics related to the 1.0.0 release:
  • Translation of base sets. OpenTTD's own strings are pretty well translated, but the translation of the base sets (graphics, sounds and music) is still lacking for many languages. Currently 32 of the 52 languages are untranslated. Can you help us by providing translations for those yet untranslated base set descriptions?
  • The music replacement project. It's going in the right direction; you can download it already with the Windows installer, however the number of songs is still very low. Help us with creating a full complement for the 1.0.0 release!
  • We are looking for new/extra translators for the following languages, the number of missing strings and change since 1.0.0-beta4 as of writing is between parentheses:
    • Basque (2502) (+5)
    • Frisian (1717) (-30)
    • Icelandic (132) (+5)
    • Ido (3106) (+5)
    • Japanese (106) (+5)
    • Macedonian (2680) (+5)
    • Malay (265) (-14)
    • Persian (1913) (+5)
    • Thai (2111) (-195)
    • Urdu (3036) (+5)
    • Welsh (128) (+5)
The FAQ of WT3 tells you how to become a translator. The languages not in this either have less than 100 missing strings, or are totally untranslated. See the translation status for more information about the current status of the translations. Generally speaking four of the previously listed languages have translated (some) strings, but there is still enough to be done. As we do not want to introduce translation bugs after the next release candidate up to 1.0.0 you only have two weeks to finish the translations.
  • The deprecation of the Mac OS X port, some user patches were applied but we still do not have an active maintainer of the port and there are still a number of open bug reports.
Finally we would like to ask whether you can help improve the documentation in the wiki so our new players have a good and up-to-date manual to help them exploring OpenTTD.

Happy OpenTTDing!

Regarding the wiki I've noticed that we do not really have a good page about Newgrfs. It doesn't seem to have been updated since BaNaNaS was introduced. Having the manual procedure written down somewhere still would be good but also having the new easier way included in the article would probably be good. Or linking to the online content article.

Yes I know it is a wiki and I could do it myslef but I haven't had time to do it yet and wanted to highlight this page as one of those that would be useful to improve for 1.0.

Surely not in 1.0, maybe in some later version.

Linux is probably the easiest OS to compile on, check out the wiki: http://wiki.openttd.org/Compiling

There is an entry in the knownbugs.txt about high cpu usage:

Code: Select all

Extreme CPU usage/hangs when using SDL and PulseAudio [FS#3294]
Please read that to check whether it matches your situation.

I had problems reading the music of OpenMSX, I think because my windows 7 user name have ´ ` ~ ^ symbols
And that way the directory of the downloaded data have those symbols.
Tried with other user name (without the accents) and worked well.

OpenTTD didn't bring me any error message of any kind, the player in-game was working funny, was always skipping to the next song without start playing.

I may be wrong, but I think that was the problem (I'm no expert :( ).

How many AIs do you have?
How big map?
How many vehicles in total of each type (total over all companies)?
Do any company have ships and if so, what pathfinder do you use for ships?

To improve the situation in an existing game you can turn of Full detail and Full animation. Playing in a smaller resolution will also work.

That's how it is ment to be. Only when the cargo reaches its final destination (industry or town) where it is consumed, you will get paid for the full trip. What you see before is an estimate of how much each vehicle contribute to the full amount.

Im getting some random crashes on this release.

It doesnt happens anything special, it just crashes. The date when it does its random, had it in the first years and had it already 30 years after start.

Once it crashes no matter what save game i take, it will always crash on that day or in the 2-3 days around it... Which kinda sucks becuase i have to start all over again...

Im using Admiral AI, Convoy, noCab and clueless as AI's.
Using Basecost 3.0 mod as grf...

Then they are not generated.
Would you mind posting the savegame that crashes and your openttd.cfg so people can get a looksie for themselves?

Dr. Google tells me this is related to buffer overflows / Data Execution Prevention (DEP). Enabling DEP may be necessary to reproduce the crash.

Also, you may want to try switching off your anti-virus software to see if it makes any difference. There have been reports about various anti-virus programs interfering with DEP in a somewhat nasty way. I cannot give any guarantees that this helps, though.
