[OTTD] My First 4-Line Station
Well, hey guys! I've been playing OpenTTD for about 4-5 hrs so far and I wanted to try my hand at a 4-Line station. It is to connect two 2-Line stations. I am looking for comments and suggestions on how to go about this more efficiently next time 'round so I came here to see what you guys think.

Try not to do 90 degree turns, it slows the trains down a ton. Also, are you using any GRFs?ThePeacemaker10 wrote:suggestions on how to go about this more efficiently

Thanks for the 90 degree turn thing, but I don't know what GRF's are so I don't think I am using them.petert wrote:Try not to do 90 degree turns, it slows the trains down a ton. Also, are you using any GRFs?ThePeacemaker10 wrote:suggestions on how to go about this more efficiently

Oh! Wow, check out http://wiki.openttd.org/NewGRF to get a better sense. They are replacement graphics for items in-game, such as vehicles, houses, stations, etc.

While they look cool and stuff I wanna try and get a hang of the basic's before going off with these. Unless they help in anyway.

Yeah, true. Alright, let's see some more screenshots!

Re: [OTTD] My First 4-Line Station
You make a brilliant point here. I did not play with NewGRFs when I first started playing OpenTTD. My suggestion to you however, is to see some of the screenshot topics around here, and learn PBS signalling. With it, you can design large more-or-less-realistic junctions with such signalling and it will look quite neat indeed (see Ameecher for example, brilliant at designing beautiful networks)ThePeacemaker10 wrote:While they look cool and stuff I wanna try and get a hang of the basic's before going off with these. My Scenarios:

Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)

@ petert, i dont think he will need newgrfs just to make the screens look supercool, this dude just made his very first 4-track station, so i think he would be better off with some guides on how to build more complex networks and how to apply signals etc.
Re: [OTTD] My First 4-Line Station
nice! Really like the 3 way junction, and also like the station.
back to the Newgrfs, they aren't mandatory, but they add a lot of extra's to the game
so like, right now your coal station has a passenger train station, but with a newgrf, like the industrial stations renewal set, you can have freight stations, so like a mineral unloader, or mineral silos and much more.
but then again, your choice

Just to clarify: only the looks of the stations are modified when using NewGRFs.
For trains, newGRFs can add quite a lot of interesting features. But you'll might not be very interested in them. So just check'em out if you get bored by the current looks.
Some tips:
It's best to avoid slopes. There's quite a few of them in your layout that can be easily avoided. Also, try to have as long a stretch between curves as possible (making the curves wider). The way this affects the game depends on the setting called "Realistic Acceleration", found in the advanced options menu. Note in your game the menus might look a tad different from the screenshots in the wiki. But the idea is still the same.

not always, in some station sets, the dual tracks can become triple tracks, thus increasing capacityEl Koeno wrote:

i think....

Re: [OTTD] My First 4-Line Station
Nope, NewGRF stations ONLY change the look of the station - the capacity is limited by the layout of the station. Some sets add "fake tracks" to make it look more realistic, but these can't be used by trains...bwong wrote:not always, in some station sets, the dual tracks can become triple tracks, thus increasing capacityEl Koeno wrote:

Re: [OTTD] My First 4-Line Station
Well I've added a 1-Line station at another coal mine a short distance away and it goes through one of the other stations. Seems to be working so far. Man this game is epic.

Re: [OTTD] My First 4-Line Station
Looking at the screenshots I'd say you need this and I'd also try avoiding having that coal train route through the othe platform mainly because of the waiting times but otherwise I'm hoping to se more shots

Interested in helping out where ever possible.
