Minor injuries only, although seeing the mother's reaction can be uncomfortable.

To be honest, I have no idea what you are on about...

At least i am not the only one who thought it was funny, my dad laughed at it as well.

You might well put that tinhat on lad.

I'm sorry tommie, but there's nothing funny about what could have been a terrible, terrible accident.

All I feel when I see this is fear, basically. I imagine the thoughts running through the mother's head as she sees her baby fall down on the tracks and sees the train plow straight over the spot. It's just unimaginable what she feels as that point, and it makes me feel really uncomfortable. I am extremely happy to know that the baby was just fine after this

There's a difference between pain and suspected death. This video basically shouts "The baby just died", while in shows like You've been framed or "America's Funniest Home Videos", it's most often quite obvious that it was a silly accident with no large repercussions. Those shows never feature videos as emotional and serious as these, and to contribute to making it fun, they present it in a silly manner

I'll watch it over and over again, not because it's funny, but because I get such a rush.

I saw that on the news too, i'm frankly amazed the baby got away apparantly "virtually unharmed" according to the news report. Amazing.

I've heard that that was because the baby was strapped into the buggy and the buggy got caught on the front of the train.
The only injury was a minor bump to the head.

It raises some interesting questions about station design. Having the edge lower then the middle is great for rainwater run off, but you would have thought the reverse would have been safer (so things role towards the middle of the station).

I know the height of the platform edge is dictated, but does anyone know if the profile of the station is (either in Australia or anywhere else?)

Well modern stations have quite a lot dictated, as for actual rules I don't know but certainly most new platforms that I have stood at have a culvert at the back of the platform with a slight angle to the platform so that rainwater drains away from the tracks to the back of the platform, obviously though, not all platforms are brand spanking new...

Also in Aus, any culvert can be very quickly overwhelmed by extreme rainstorms, so draining forwards onto the track might make sense.

I may be corrected by the Aussies on this board, and I've never been to Victoria, but where I have been in NSW I gained the impression that railways tend to be somewhat ad hoc in Aus, and that individual stations can vary a lot, with no consistent standard applied. Take a look for instance at Scone's 'relatively' narrow platform http://www.nswrail.net/locations/photo. ... SW:Scone:2, Macdonaldtown's tiles which might use a little TLC http://www.nswrail.net/locations/photo. ... in_south:0 or Broadmeadow's relatively substantial ones http://www.nswrail.net/locations/photo. ... admeadow:5.

Well, we got a metrostation here who has a sloped platform, but its also a bit sloped away from the track, so you cant go on the tracks when racing down the platform:

Even though I already knew the baby would be fine, I still nearly died with fright. I can't even imagine what that poor mother must have felt for that split second.

It's bad enough when you lose track of a toddler for a split second, but to actually see the train plough into the pushchair... jesus.

Don't be too harsh on the laugher, it does have some comic value in the moment between the pushchair rolling and the train appearing, and we do know the baby's okay beforehand.
