1) So you can play OpenTTD on it
2) Because it's CHEAPER than a computer ;-)

Cheapest laptops around are Netbooks at £230+
Wii = £200

Both will run the internet well enough, and the wii will play games. Technically so will a netbook, but you really don't want to: XP is too slow on the hardware and linux games are still appalling.

3) Why not? It's free and means you can browse the net using your TV

You seem to have messed your argument up somewhat.

Just spend a little time looking at pointers and memory management - they're the only major difference. The rest is just a case of using different libraries and slightly different keywords.
With that said, I have still yet to ever meet a single competent Java programmer.

I fail to get your point, want to elaborate? :)

wii is not laptop/notebook. cheapest pc to buy new is 150€ here. you get much cheaper ones (25€) to play ottd either on win or on linux. and most cheap graphics cards or onboard graphics have tv out

For OpenTTD you can get a very old second hand PC for only a few euros, or if you got friends who want to get rid of such an old PC, you might even obtain it for free.

However, new game PCs with hardware for the current PC games are a lot more expensive. It seems that in the past 10 years, you'll get a quite good game PC for €1000 approx (at least in the Netherlands). Of course, the same PC is worth only half of that, a year later.

You can get a pretty powerful machine for about 600€. Just buy all the components separately. For 600€ I got a PC that cost around 1100€ on its own (screen included of course). Say 1000€, if you don't count vista (which I didn't buy).

Let's stick to topic, yeah? If you want to discuss the merits of running linux on a Wii or just buying a cheap PC that can be done in Off Topic :)

OTTD on the Wii. Sounds cool. How's the development going?

Looking forward to the first (alpha) release as OTTD on my Wii would be the perfect match imho :)

Keep up the good work!

Please, read the title of this topic again. Now realise this topic is about an OpenTTD port for the Wii. Then read miniPax' post and my post again and try to understand my reply.

Point taken, seems as there's not much happening with this project atm. Too bad...
But a tiny part of me hopes that someone is doing something somewhere, so a little encourage could never hurt ;-)

Awesome! I haven't tried the homebrew channel yet, but this would definitely be a reason to have a go!

Any news on the development of a port for the Wii? I'd like to try playing OTTD from my couch without having to get my computer downstairs. If there is no news, I'd love to have a look myself at the possibilities how to get it running!

Personally, I would guess that news would be posted in this thread, or some other thread that answers to a search for wii.

Please read those threads yourself and see if you can find any news.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

As this was the newest thread I could find, and there was no update from the previous authors I guess they did not post any update (yet). Are my search skills bad, or is my question too bad to get a normal answer?

The fact that there is no update in this topic probably means there is no update. That's all.
