Need Help With Color Schemes Please

Post by FelipeMazza89 »

Hello i was just wondering if there is a way of having individual colors for each vehicle? (e.g. red coal truck, green oil tanker, blue steel truck.) Please get back to me when you can.

cheers.

not currently in OpenTTD, patch i dont know, but i doubt it.

altho, it would be a nice thing to be able to set colors on a vehicle basis, and not just on it's class (openttd)

It could be done with a grf set where the vehicles are drawn to have those specific colours. But that means drawing and coding the set. :o

Some sets contain "realistic" vehicles which follow a pre-decided color scheme.

Currently, there is no such "GRF" or patch in the making, as far as I know. I guess there's not really all that big of a need for it. Also, why would you actually need all the colors?

well i've been using all the realistic sets for a while, but recently i've gone back to the generic road set which has been modified but enjoying it more, i won't be using all the colors but i would like a bit more of a color variation on the highways like in real life really, just to liven up the roads a bit.

I learnt from TTD Patch Wiki http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... RFTutorial and Purno's tutorials: http://users.tt-forums.net/purno/PDT/re ... index.html, and also from other people on the forums.

You can take a basic sprite sheet layout from my site http://www.tt-foundry.com/ - that's the layout Zephyris uses and sent to me, there are other variations on it; there's no fixed standard on layout, just be consistent.

Feel free to look at my sprites for tips on how to draw with pixels and a limited palette - although I learnt from looking at sprites by Zephyris and Dan MacK.

The palette can cause trouble. Just picking colours from another sprite isn't always reliable. I've got a palette .act file for Photoshop which is reliable, if you have a programme that can use it.

Coding I can't help with. Coders are in short supply

It would be fairly trivial to modify an RV set so you could 'refit' vehicles to other colours, I think... :) Or to make it so that you got randomly slightly-different coloured vehicles, similar to what I've done with the boxcars in NARS.
