Wethill station is a major junction on the mainline and the expansion of nearby towns has lead to the station needing more platforms. The 2 platforms furthest to the left will serve a new local service to Little Slunway.

The new platforms are open to business. The remainder of the modification work was put on hold due to percieved lack of requirement and would not be completed for some years yet.

Some shots of the Chardingstone Metropolis. The mainline station with the restored BR05 on a charter to commemorate the fact that until the arrival of the BR103 (in the platform next to it - on its first run) it was the fastest loco in the country.

This area proved to be a bottle neck. The sheer number of passenger services and iron ore services too proved too much for the old viaducts to cope with. The plan was to move the heavy Iron Ore, Coal and Steel services onto newer, more suitable bridges to the east.

Wethill in 1990. The modifications were carried out about 10 years ago now and spare land to the north of the station was used to store the nation collection of historically important railway vehicles.

Dondinghattan at peak time. An aging BR110 passes under the station for Chardingstone while a newer BR181 heads for the country. A BR420 EMU arrives on one of the central platforms which are used for reversal of trains (Dondinghattan is now part of the S-Bahn network of Chardingstone via a link near Gentbridge). A BR612 DMU arrives on the other of the centre platforms with a service for Chardingstone from some remote corner of the map. BR111s occupy platforms 1 and 4, one is bound for Chardingstone, the other for Lonfingley.

Looking good as always.
Especially interesting to see how cities have grown if you compare your Giant Screenshot and Dondinghattam now.

Little Chanway approach used to be problematic in steam days with a number of steep climbs. Problems with trains slipping meant that the slope was made more sympathetic to departing locos. No such problem exists anymore with the advent of Electric and Diesel haulage.

Edit: thanks GoneWacko. The towns really have grown a lot :)

Fine, Adding Sarnpool, Druwood and Planbridge.

Planbridge is a bit sparse. I need to pretty it up a bit. Purely functional at the moment, and just had platforms tacked on as they've been needed.

Druwood. The V140 loco is a bit ancient but has managed to avoid replacement up until recently when it was withdrawn and sent to the national rail museum.

Sarnpool. BR111s operate the local trains. Expresses are operated by BR112s following the replacement of the BR110s. There are a couple of BR111s on expresses as a result of a supplement of the BR110 fleet.

Good work, but I still have questions...

How does a town of 2000 (Wethill) support a seemingly constant stream of 6-car EMUs and expresses without running out of passengers? I've always wanted OpenTTD to have the %-load option to get rid of the problem of one train draining the station, so is that how you do it?

Anyway, looking excellent. Now, visit my topic again and help shift it to the top of the page, lest I kick your ass :p

Well, Wethill has a bus stop remotely attached to the centre of the town so the station always has a lot of passengers. Also, the expresses don't stop there and only a very limited number of through trains (aside from the 6 car EMUs) stop there. So that's why they all make a decent amount of profit. The trains that use the terminus platforms to the right are so infrequent that they barely make a dent on passenger numbers.

As far as I know, % loading is an Open feature and the Patch has no such thing ;)

Hmm, well in the Nightly I've got from a month or so ago, there's no %-load option in OTTD, must've been buggy or somethings.

Customers demanded a new style of service, they wished to arrive at their destination refreshed. So the company oblidged and introduced a brand new sleeper service on the main route. Under the NachtZug brand New stock was ordered and platforms lengthened at stations along the route. The train, composed of BR182, 3 car carriers, 2 first car sleepers*, 2 lounge cars, 5 second class sleepers* and 2 further lounge cars is the longest passenger carrying train on the network.
The initial service loads in Platform 3 at Chardingstone. NachtZug trains will always leave from platform 3 or 4 as this is where platforms are long enough and there is the facility to drive cars onto the trains.
SCR472.png
SCR472.png (89.15 KiB) Viewed 2541 times
The initial service wasn't too popular for cars but was popular with passengers. The trains heads towards Dondinghattan on the slow lines.
SCR473.png
SCR473.png (51.33 KiB) Viewed 2539 times
The train is limited to 100mph to give the passengers a good nights sleep (and it ensures that the journey is not too short). As a result the train uses the slow lines throughout, often meaning it is held behind freight trains.

*note that Sleeping cars are actually Mail vans. This was just a good way of getting rid of a large build up of mail at stations. :P

However the train does have the oppurtunity to overtake the slow freight.

What a jolly good idea! Nice one matey, I'm nearly at the time of electric trains and decent traffic levels in mine now so I'm looking forward to making some screenshots that begin to almost maybe rival yours (a bit).

A novel idea :o
It also shows the power of conditional signalling in TTDPatch, with the overtaking and such :o

Re: [TTDP] Ameecher's Screenshots

Heh, my screenshots don't take much to be rivalled. I just build what I think looks right. I certainly don't plan any of it! The only planning is done when needed, ie. "I'm building a line, where shall it go?" and in later stages "This junction needs a rebuild, how I'm gonna do it" All planning is for the right now issue and occasionally it will have some stuff for things I intend to do down the line (although, more often than not, these things don't happen!).
I like to bend the rules a bit too. Like using Mail Vans as sleepers. At this stage of the game, I'm not short of a bob or two so I like focussing on real life operations and it generally works well. Making efficient, realistic networks is fun and this one has been highly successful, there has only been 1 traffic jam in this game of note and that was as a result of me destroying a way point so trains just panicked and stopped leaving a queue of 30 trains. It wasn't one of those oh bugger, the trains are all over the map, what do I do? sort of things.

Anyway, like I say, anyone could rival my shots, they just need to be prepared to ramble about them as much as I do.

Edit: Indeed, restrictive signalling is very useful. It allows me to restrict which trains use which platforms (notably the long platforms at Chardingstone are restricted to trains of 15 or 16 length so only the NachtZug trains use them), and as GoneWacko says, the fast and slow tracks. All the signals controlling the fast and slow lines have shared restrictions so that I can change 1 signal and all the signals will change to that, for instance the restriction stared at <=62mph and >62mph, then grew to 75, 87, 93 and now 100, all easily done :)

New game. I'll add the old save if people request it.

Gonburg is the capital of the region. It will be expanded further at a later date (not the buffer stops on the north side of the station.
SCR1.png
SCR1.png (88.68 KiB) Viewed 1137 times
Denhill is across the river from Gonburg and is a large town and as such gets a large station. The idea is not to have trains terminating at Gonburg because space is tight, instead trains will go there and then go onto sidings or another station to terminate where there is more space.
SCR2.png
SCR2.png (99.58 KiB) Viewed 2258 times
Here is the otherway out of Gonburg. The sidings are for the main platforms the station is on the local lines. There will be a connection between the two eventually (when funds allow!)
