Three years, nine months. Is that a record?

And there's no list. You start with your initials, and then figure out if anyone else here has those initials. If they do, you pick a casing they didn't.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Did you have trouble understanding what Dalestan is trying to tell you? Why do you think this topic has been dead for almost 4 years?

Anybody got a clue-by-4?

What part of that are you failing to understand?

Action 8 was added (effectively) February 24, 2003. That means that we've not had a list for almost five years. In those five years, the *only* cases of ID-conflict have been between GRFs released by the same person. Why do we suddenly need a list now, and how would having such a list prevent people from releasing incompatible GRFs with the same IDs?

DaleStan, please calm down.

Such a list could be helpful in a few situations, though there are probably more useful thingies to spend time on. Besides, such a list would only be useful if it actually is complete and frequently updated, which is the hardest part of doing so.

As opposed to looking at the README, or the GRF Status right in the game? Considering that a lot of people are incapable of even reading the README, what makes you think that they will go searching for some obscure list in order to find whom they should nag about their problems? So, for end users, this whole list is absolutely useless (which anyone who has some experience with developing GRFs knows).

As for developers - so far there was no need. If anything, an automated system could be helpful - but even that is unlikely to be complete and up to date. And as Michael pointed out, grf-crawler already keeps track of this information for some sets.

Considering that we haven't yet had any problems regarding GRFID collisions between different authors, this all seems like a complete waste of time.
