It was the decided that a rail corridor through the Nars Valley would form the backbone of the Nars rail network. Due to geographical constraints, much of it would be single track. Efficient traffic control would be essential.
As the citizens were clamoring for intercity passenger and mail service, it was decided that these would be the next set of phases of the Nars Valley Project.
Phase 5 would be to connect Summerville to South Falls and be known as the South Falls South Subdivision. It was anticipated that tight financing and the engineering challenges of building bridges and a grade up a deep narrow valley past four waterfalls would lead to delays. Care would have to be taken to keep blasting to a minimum in order to satisfy the citizens' insistence on protecting the environment. The Summerville Engine Shops were built in June 1942 and the South Falls South Subdivision marker was erected in August to officially open the line. Local rail service would be initiated using a 4-6-2 Pacific pulling one mail/baggage and three passenger cars.
It took over five years and nearly exausted the project's resources, but five bridges and a lot of hard rock blasting later, the job was done.

NVP's RV division vehicles had gone past their specified life times but it was decided to tolerate them for another bit of time and to move directly to Phase 6, the South Falls North Subdivision connecting South Falls to Midville.

After a two year layoff while the project recouped some costs, it was time to recall the construction crews and proceed with Phase 6.
Midway through construction, coal train 0146 was in sore need of replacement and it was decided to pause Phase 6 while the engine was replaced with our first diesel, #0173, an EMD F-Unit. A bit later #0250 came due and was replaced with #0280, an Alco S2. Upon completion of the South Falls North Subdivision, the South Falls South local was replaced with #0479 Budd RDC's and the South Falls North local #0579 wad built with the same consist.

The Midville coal train was replaced by #0390, an FM Train Master with 68:15 gear ratio.
With cash flow on a solid footing, it was decided to proceed with Phase 7, the Riverton South Subdivision. Local service was set up with another Budd RDC set.

Phase 8 would be connecting Riverton to Winterlude and be known as Riverton North Subdivision. Although the shorter of the Nars river rail subdivisions, it would have its own set of engineering challenges, in particular the four tile high grade up through the gorge below Winterlude Falls. Yet another Budd RDC set was commissioned into service.
This would complete the backbone of the Nars rail system, the Nars Valley subdivisions. Upgrades to the line would be required to accommodate future growth in traffic expected from servicing the resources along the route as well as proving express services between Summerville, Midville and Winterlude.
Furthermore, the project, although still carrying a significant debt load, had moved into a solid cash flow situation and it was anticipated that layoffs due to financial considerations would no longer be required.

Re: {TTDP} Wallyweb Productions *The Nars Valley Project*
I really really like the Winterlude Falls Gorge shot, the realism of a small valley with railways and roads fighting for space to navigate the area is fantastic.

Indeed! Two of our best civil engineers had to be committed to rehab.Ameecher wrote:... railways and roads fighting for space to navigate the area is fantastic.

Don't you think the tees look out of place in a snowy environment? It's just unreal.
Re: {TTDP} Wallyweb Productions *The Nars Valley Project*
Thanks all ... much appreciated as always.
You meant trees ... That's SAC's department. We are waiting for her to deliver the new seasonal tree props. Same applies to Pikkabird's industry stuff.

Unfortunately there will be at least one more intermission before we can get the film crews up to Plainston.Ben_K wrote:Im really hungry and thirsty again...

The conifers don't look out of place because quite often, if it is blowy, the snow falls off the trees anyway.White Rabbit wrote:Don't you think the tees look out of place in a snowy environment? It's just unreal.
Re: {TTDP} Wallyweb Productions *The Nars Valley Project*
Actually its the backwash from the spacelaunch as it approaches for a landing. We don't quite have the knack for the slowing down bit yet. I think the sonic boom has something to do with shaking the snow off the trees too.

In anticipation of Midville becoming the rail hub of the island and finding NVP's services to be outstanding, the Midville local authorities requested that NVP expand its local facilities focusing on a station built in the style of Montréal's Gare Centrale. On behalf of NVP, Mr. Web accepted the proposal and instructed his staff to move on this immediately.
In preparation, the track accessing the Riverton South Subdivision would have to be doubled.

The South Falls and Riverton #1 Quarries were opened and gravel was hauled to Midville Engineering for use in preparing the new station site and track realignments. The Midville Engine Shops had to be moved two tiles to the east with the coal loader replaced by diesel fueling towers.

In order to better service local industries and their sidings, the access to the South Falls North Subdivision would have to be realigned and its track would have to be doubled as well. This would require significant excavation work in the valley walls to the southeast of Midville as well as some realignment of the river, which in turn, would require environmental assessments and possibly considerable bribery of the Local Authorities.
