I noticed a problem with this game, I'm using the wrong industry set so I don't get food. No food means no towns grow. I'll persevere and see how it goes but I get the feeling this will get a bit dull.

1) The mainline was getting a bit busy and this was the bottleneck. Dualling the spiral was tough and involved the line being closed for 3 months but it was done and this is the result. A BR01 with a Rheingold express is seen exitting the spiral.

2) The local electric train from Grinville was replaced by a multiple unit which is much faster and better suited for the steep climb out of Grinville.

3) Panway is on the Southern Line out of Grinville. It is a little hamlet that only sees a twice daily stopping service and the daily Rheingold Express passes through non-stop.

4) Bedston was added to the network with a line to Sledtown.

5) Brunnville and Bonbourne were to awkwardly located towns and to service them an AI style of construction was needed. The BR01 express takes the single line north of Bonbourne while a BR50 arrives at the peculiar Bonbourne station. Another BR50 is about to enter the tunnel under Brunnville before climbing into the town's station.

Nice shots! I like your style building railways through the mountainous area. Keep on going, even without food. The small villages make the flair :D

I agree, although I suppose the game may slow down to a halt without larger towns in the late game.

Still, if it's not too boring or anything, keep going :)

Small towns could still be interesting! In all my OTTD games the towns all explode to 10,000+ populations as soon as there's a half descent train service, meaning I'm always playing catch up to meet demand. Little towns keep the character of the game and are I suppose, very easy to manage. Keep showing the great screenies Ameecher...

Well I'm continuing because the towns grow in summer so long as they are below the snowline. It is also nice to have so very small hamlets right until the end of the game.

1) The approach to Fadworth. The mainline served by BR01s and VT-37s enters from the south while the mountain branch line enters from the east.
SCR110.png

2) The engineering train climbs the turnbacks on the new mountain to Sedingtown before passenger services are augmented. The train is aiding with the construction of a new branch of this line.
SCR111.png
SCR111.png (152.3 KiB) Viewed 3238 times
3) The bottom end of the mountain railway from above. The line was originally going to climb back up the other mountain but the plans were shelved with the terrain being cited as too tough to build on. Instead the line terminates at this transfer station with the mainline from pic 1 in this post.

Had to terminate that game which is a shame because I was rather enjoying it, the trouble is, when a Power station is producing steel from coal you realise something is broken. So I started a new game with the Alpine climate and proper industries. 2 shots from it follow.

1) An express train crosses the Viaduct as a fishing trawler approaches the quayside for onward transfer of it's cargo.
SCR116.PNG
SCR116.PNG (166.34 KiB) Viewed 1155 times
2) A mountain local train formed of wooden passenger coaches, mail vans and food vans approaches it's terminus while an EMU heads for higher up the mountain. All the food produced is deliveried to a number of central stations and then transported from there by local freight trains up the mountains. Eventually goods will also be carried this way. I got the idea from the Wengenalpbahn in Switzerland where all supplies to the alpine resort of Wengen are transferred from the Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen train to the "WAB" narrower guage trains to climb the last few miles to Wengen.

3 more from the same game.

1) The centre of the network is this rather cramped triangular junction between two rather large cities.

2) Fish is big business and here is another quay where fish is transferred from boats to trains.

3) A small rural branch line. Nothing more to be said really.

Simple love that station lay-out. Nice idea with the trains above the tunnels as well. Nice job.

It's changed a bit, same station lay-out but the surroundings have gone a bit crazy. New motorway and airport! Really liking RVs with the Generic RV set, I've got over 110 RVs and they're all making money, it's great, well done Zephyris :D

With the arrival of the BR120 a new cross map service has been launched under the TEE brand.

1) The train on it's inaugural trip heads through the cutting near Flontfield.

2) The train by-passes Brendstone with it's award winning tram system.
SCR128.png

3) South of Hedtown the train reaches it's 125mph top speed and passes a pair of ET-30s on a local train heading north and a BR150 on an iron ore train awaiting siding space to load with more iron ore.

4) The train descends the turnbacks beyond Cubourne Central. A powerful BR420 climbs with a stopping service to Little Chanway.
SCR131.png

5) Muworth is the first station on the single track section and is a major interchange with train up into the mountains. A BR144 prepares to head up into the mountains while an ET-30 loads with a stopper to Little Chanway. Plans are in the pipeline to double the line to Muworth and beyond to allow freight to be carried on the line.
SCR132.png
SCR132.png (53.22 KiB) Viewed 2672 times
6) Chudhall and Chinningpool is the final station on the line. All services terminate here be they from the mountains or the mainline despite the station having a through layout. This station was originally the terminus of the mountain railway with the main station being where the airport is now located but a rise in demand for integrated networks the mainline was diverted to this better situated station. Train reverse using reversing sidings to the north and south of the station.

When the mainline was electrified a lot of it was doubled too. In most places this was a relatively simple exercise of laying another track adjacent to the original with minimal earth works. However near Pindhall this was not going to be possible with the original line clinging to the hill side high above the lake and was deemed unsuitable for double tracking, also the line was too twisty to make it a candidate for very fast trains like the BR103 and BR181 that were planned for the line. As a result 3 tunnels were bored through the mountain, 2 rail and one road. The original railway was retained for diversions but is little used.
An iron ore train exits from the East Portal while a BR120 on a TEE service enters the East Portal for Little Chanway. An ET-30 awaits for clearance to proceed.

I do try my best :)

Edit: A new lucrative coal route was started, the coal mine produces 1,080 tonnes of coal a month and it takes 12 trains capable of transporting 720t each are needed to shift the load.

1) The coal mine with the inaugural train.

2) The massive coal train on the infamous viaducts at Farhattan, now in the shadow of the motorway bridges.
SCR136.png

3) The train prepares to enter the long tunnel mentioned earlier. The approach to the tunnel is steep which is why 14,700hp is needed to power these trains.

The coal trains were too long for the triangular junction between Henwell and Hedtown to operate efficiently, the junction could be blocked for very long periods of time so a by passing line was built exclusively for wood and coal trains. The first train is seen traversing the new line.

5 shots from me tonight.

1) Farhattan was a bottle neck with 4 lines narrowing to 2 and trains stopping and holding it all up so the line through the station was quadrupled. It was too impractable and not really necessary to quad the line any further than this point.
A BR181 on an Interregio train waits to cross to Chendworth Falls after the mammoth coal train has passed. Also of note is the new stock on fish trains, BR181s (and 112s in later renewals) with new refrigerated wagons.
SCR139.png
SCR139.png (106.88 KiB) Viewed 1129 times
2) Little Chanway, as one of the main stations on the network (it's the terminus of two mainlines) it was a bit wind swept and unkempt, also, the tight location that it was built in meant it was of an unorthodox design so in 1991 work was done to make the station more appealling to passengers. This is before.... (a BR 181 arrives with an interregio while a BR420 departs and a classmate loads in platform 3.
SCR140.png
SCR140.png (119.46 KiB) Viewed 2490 times
3) .... and after a BR181 and BR110 perform a simultaneous exit to the new station.

4) Pindwood had a through line added to help ease hold ups. There is no room for full scale tripling, let alone quadrupling.
SCR143.png
SCR143.png (91.42 KiB) Viewed 2484 times
5) Chendworth Falls was rapidly becoming a popular destination and for the first time Intercity services were introduced alongside the now hourly Interregios to the station. Capacity then became an issue so the station was rebuild with new roofs and two extra platforms were added to the south. Ironically, no trains are present. Intercity trains are hauled by BR181s or 112s with 8 coaches. Interregios use the same locos but with 7 interregio coaches.
