DJC jumps on the Bandwaggon...(Flickr Topic)

...and joins Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/djcs_trains/

Right now it's just some photos I took of the steam special that came through Colchester today, but I'll add more of my railway pics when I get time. Enjoy! :)

Heh I saw that at Norwich yesterday when it was preparing for the trip. I as usual didn't have my camera on me so once again I missed some interesting stuff. The same train is off to Scarborough tomorrow and is starting from East Dereham on the mid-norfolk railway (not actually NR rails) and then will go via Ely Peterborough and York. Not getting up for that though :P

Edit: that's a real life Merchant Navy for you, a bit off it's home turf mind.

Glad you liked them Rai. And yes indeed Ameecher, the loco wasn't on one of its it's 'Native' lines. But seeing as steam specials around here are pretty rare, I don't mind where the engine is from, so long as it makes the right sound and smell. 8) It was originally going to be 'Green Arrow' hauling this train, but apparently it had some problems, hence the change in loco.

Anyways, I added some more pics and made a TT Forums Group, if anyone is interested: http://www.flickr.com/groups/tt_forums/

That's a real life Merchant Navy. Ever wondered what the one in the UKRS really looked like? :p

Well, it's actually a Battle of Britain, which to my knowledge is pretty much the same as a Merchant Navy, but they were named after RAF stuff from WWII. But yes, it's a very nice engine.

Yeah it is actually a BoB (Peter1138 very kindly pointed this out to me on IRC.)but they are essentially the same just a later build with some more "advanced" features. The streamlining is purely cosmetic and doesn't allow the locomotive to travel any faster hence why the Merchant Navies had their streamlining removed (for the war effort).

Yes, I was rather proud of that shot. Shame about it being a boring train, well, I find EMUs pretty boring.

@Andel...maybe, if you tell me what it is.

Ah right. Thought it might be something railway related.

Not being a native of Wivenhoe I didn't have any plans to go, but if I decide to then I'll let ye know.

Crikey! Sheringham! I live near there! Although admittedly I'm not there at the moment, the NNR is always good for photos, especially Weybourne and Sheringham.

Edit: Just looking at the photos you went to the Bure Valley too. You appear to have covered almost every bit of railway in Norfolk, if you saw Gunton station, I live just near that, the old GER building has been done up quite nicely.

Yeah, that's pretty much what we did. Can't remember going near Gunton though.

Probably a wise move, It's between North Walsham and Cromer on the Norwich to SHeringham line.
