[TTDP] Shared Game Screenshot Thread
*Dies in gales of laughter*
You've gotta admit, they're pretty radical changes... But still, it's lost it's charm now - efficiency isn't really all that is it? Singaporekid might have jumbled up the junctions, etc, but at least it looked cool.

Thats one of the best bits about this shared game, is it develops much like real life - different people have the power and do different things, and we'll be able to look back and say "why did so and so build that silly line? It's closing now", or "why did we close that line, it's so busy now!"Dave Worley wrote:"In my day..."

It will be interesting to see if any of the lines from the 1920's still exist in 2050...

Right, a few screenshots! Since British Rail came under new management (although I just noticed that I forgot to change things like the player name, oh well), freight has become more and more important. In 1961, a small coal line between a mine and a power station was set up, just single track for now, but with thoughts of potentially increasing capacity in the future. (See picture 1.)
A little later in the year, a branch was created to another nearby coal mine (picture 2), and shortly afterwards, a segment of line was upgraded to dual tracks to deal with the increased traffic on the line.

Because money is tight at this stage of the game, most lines were not immediately built dual tracked. The majority of freight lines have been built as a single track, with passing places here and there. If tracks become overly congested, a track may be upgraded to dual track.

In 1962, with our coal business established, we looked into other material requiring transportation. We won the contract to transport wood from a local forest to the nearby sawmill. (Picture 5)
Once this line had been established, we were contacted by Lindbury Forest, who had a high production rate and were interested in us setting up a service to them. We built a dual-tracked line to the same sawmill, and purchased a fleet of powerful diesel engines to carry the wood.

Meanwhile, back at the power station, a new long-distance branch line had been built to a coal mine north of Moskau. (Picture 7, 9)
While money was still tight, the aim was to not interfere with other lines, and so tunnels and bridges were built to avoid any unnecessary crossings. (Picture

The junction in picture 7 did prove to be a problem however, primarily due to the steep slope the heavy coal trains had to climb. The junction was redesigned so that the climb for inbound trains was more gradual. (Picture 10)
The coal mine's production was good, and due to the long distance, services were fairly infrequent. Passing lanes were built and multiple trains were placed on service here. (Picture 11)
Picture 12 shows a Type 3 diesel shifting hundreds of tonnes of coal to the power station, on a scenic route through rolling hills and farmland.

Another new long-distance coal line, this time to a coal mine near the large bay on the west side of the map. Picture 13 shows the line closely hugging the coast, to avoid climbing up the rugged mountains.

Picture 14 shows a locomotive heaving its coal towards the power station.

With all this increased traffic on the coal line (the extra traffic joins in near the coal mine on the original line from picture 1), the passing lanes were upgraded to full-blown dual tracks in 1966. (Picture 16) Coincidentally, this is the year British Rail finally paid off their loan, which at times had hit over £1 million! All this new freight traffic, while expensive to set up, certainly brings in the money!
All the pictures so far have been of freight, you may notice. I personally prefer freight to passenger operations, but I didn't completely neglect passengers... picture 17 shows a variety of upgraded diesel and electric locomotives, replacing some of the old unreliable steam engines which had been left to depreciate by Mr Beeching.
Picture 18 shows a new line that was built to a farm in 1967.

North Sea Oil has been found! Picture 19 shows the new oil rig that has been built, and British Rail has purchased an oil tanker to take oil from the rig to the new docks at Gradworth.
Picture 20 shows the farm line from picture 18, now upgraded to dual track in places to cope with the increased traffic from the oil rig. Two oil locomotives pass each other.
Picture 21 shows how the line from the food processing plant at Raichase City was extended, to the refinery in picture 22, north of Moskau.
Picture 23 shows some of the traffic on the line, including oil and grain trains.

Shortly after this, the oil rig's production doubled, and the current trains were swamped! The decision was made to double track the entire line from the docks to the refinery, shown in picture 24.
Picture 25 shows the docks, with an oil tanker departing for the rig again, and a train departing with its cargo of oil.
Picture 26 shows a new junction between two lines, the oil line and a coal line. The coal line is being used en-route to a fuel depot in the west of the map, where trains from the refinery can take fuel.
Picture 27 shows this fuel depot.
The junction originally used at the docks was not grade-separated, and at times caused blockages when it got too busy. This was replaced with a new, grade-separated junction, as in picture 28.

And finally, this is where I left the game. British Rail has gone a long way in the past ten years. In 1961, we had a £580K loan, a company value of £1.7 million, 15 trains, 22 road vehicles and 4 aircraft. 572K passengers, 86K bags of mail, 26K items of livestock, 29K crates of goods and 36K tonnes of grain had been transported. Income was some £1 million a year, although profit somewhat less!
In 1971, we have no loan, a company value of £6.9 million, 37 trains, 22 road vehicles, 4 aircraft and 2 ships. 878K passengers, 25K tonnes of coal, 148K bags of mail, 6.4M litres (6.4K "items") of oil, 38K items of livestock, 40K crates of goods, 54.8K tonnes of grain, 20.4K tonnes of wood and 1.5M litres (1.5K "items") of fuel oil had been transported. Income was some £2.4 million a year, and profit for the past two years had been £922K and £825K a piece.
I've enjoyed my time as CEO of British Rail, but I feel that now it's time to step aside. If you ever want me back, just give me a shout.
