A midland is a country with no coast line. In germany will call such a county a "Binnenland".

I think you're getting terminology a bit mixed up.

In (British) English, we term such an occurrence as 'landlocked'.

Midland refers to the middle of a country.

I, for example, live in the West Midlands of England. I'm about 60 miles from any body of saltwater (which even then is a bit of a fallacy, since it's only the estuary of the River Severn).

I used http://dict.leo.org/ for translation, but as eirikho has also problems to get the meaning, it seems to be not the correct word. Sorry :oops: and thanks for the explanation :)

Think you've got it bad? I'm 69 miles from The Wash, my nearest source. And 72 miles is, according to BBC's series Coast, the furthest from saltwater anyone in the UK is at any point! Oh well, can't argue, living next to th MML. I can see it from the room in which i type this message. Todays sightings...

1 Class 60, 1 Class 66, 1 Class 156, 2 Class 170's, 2 Class 222's and 2 pairs of 43's. Thank god for the miracle of windows.
