Oracle should be the one to do it sice hes the coder and only he will be able to update it.

Yes, but, he hasn't been seen in months. Anyone know where he is?

The only other two people I think would be suitable to pwn it till he returns are you and DaleStan if hes going to release a bugfix version.

Hmm. DaleStan, do you have any plans in this direction?

It's on my ever-lengthening todo, but I'd really like to get some vague newcargos support in too. And Oracle didn't exactly make that easy.

To that end, which classes[0] should each vehicle (not) be allowed to carry? In general, I'll use tourist capacity at 1/4 pax capacity, assuming that's what I used for the Planeset. Are there any other cargos that should be special-cased, or should the rest just be left alone? Are there any special-case cargos that require either special graphics (besides the obvious pax/mail/goods) or refitability different from other cargos of the same class(es)?

Also, how accurate is the Trains development page? (Specifically, the table of not-yet-included sprites.)

(Note: The answers to these questions will be filed away for future reference. No guarantee is made that they will ever actually get referenced by me.)

[0] A list of the classes can be found here. There is also a proposal to add "Hazardous materials" to that list.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Hmm I could add it, but I dont even know who is the Coder and the drawer either. You know its important. The author would mind if I will upload it.

It's as accurate as can be, by which I mean, it currently includes everything (both drawn sprites, and sprites not yet drawn that the set needs) that I know of.

The coder was Oracle, who as I said, hasn't been seen in a long while.

There were dozens of artists, the US Set was always a major team set; in fact, it's probably the only one quite like it in the TTD world.

If anyone could be said to be the author, it would probably be me, although I didn't actually contribute anything except co-ordination, simply because I've been involved in it all the way along.

However, I think that with GRF Crawler, is there some function that only the person who adds the listing, can change it? If that's the case, then you're right, you'd better not do it; probably I should.

Cough. Not quite, yer not the only that was "all along". And as for the workload. DanMacK did like 60% of the drawing, me about 30%, rest came from other participants. Oracle did the coding. You did the website (which could use an update). If there is one "author" to be named, I'd nominate Dan or Oracle. Obviously - Oracle isn't here, so methinks Dan should do the entry in Grfcrawler.

Anyhoo - I think we should go through the whole set, reorganize the sprites, idenitfy those needing update (there is lots of new stuff on the forums that could be used) or a redraw, state some quality standards and find a coder willing to recode the thing as UsSet 2.0.

Btw - Dan is brewing some cool USish industries.

Folks, as a long time fan of the US set I would like to make a suggestion re your GRFCrawler quandary. Think of it as an extension to your web site's distribution arm ... a place to get the downloads. Whereas 1. krtaylor is not the actual author/coder, 2. There are several authors, 3. The coder is MIA, 4. krtaylor has been managing and co-ordinating things including the web site, therefore krtaylor would be the logical candidate to do the Crawler thing. The web site and indeed this very thread provide ample evidence of credit as to authorship and codership (Oxford/Webster, please add this to your dictionaries asap). If there is any question re GRFCrawler, why not check with Oskar to see if he has any recommendations?

I'm looking forward to some of those updates and the thought of a US Set 2.0 is intriguing.

I would like to see the steam engines to become available earlier than 1920, due to two reasons:

1) It looks better in the menu
2) I would like to use this train set for earlier stars in Open TTD

I also hope that you will include some earlier engines, like "Grasshopper" and "American". It would make me really happy! :D

Well, unless Oracle resurfaces, there won't be a US Set 2.0 until a new coder turns up. Volunteers?

But OK, I will look into the GRF Crawler system and see about uploading the US Set to it.

All right, I have done some GRF Crawler posting, please take a look. Couple of notes.

1. I didn't have any suitable images ready to hand. If someone would like to make one, I will be glad to add it and credit you... somewhere...

2. I did not add the US Roads file because a) it wasn't that great and b) there's a new version in process, with a different coder. I'll post that one when it's ready.

3. I did not add the US Town Names GRF because it never worked properly. I would REALLY like to get that fixed, but again I need a coder. I would think it shouldn't be too hard to code, because maybe you could follow the example of some other town names file that works? But there have been several tries and it's never come out right. Any ideas?

4. GRF Crawler wants the GRF IDs, but I don't actually know what they are. If someone knows and says so, I'll update.

5. I posted only the current reworked version of the signals, not the original one which was fairly popular for a time. I suppose I could post the older ones, simply to have it noted that there's a replacement - but for that to work, I'd have to know all the GRF IDs.

Otherwise, take a look folks, and I don't mind making adjustments if anyone has any comments.

Is that the new signals set, or the old one?

By "post your request", I meant "list the introduction dates you want to see".

Just because there's no coder right now doesn't mean that there won't be one in the future, and
Krtaylor: "Weneedacoder. Weneedacoder Weneedacoder."
Volunteer: "OK. What needs to be done?"
K: "This is what needs to be done."

Is a whole lot more likely to attract a coder than
K: "Weneedacoder. Weneedacoder Weneedacoder."
V: "OK. What needs to be done?"
K: "Um.... Um.... I dunno. OK, folks. Let's go get some stats for our coder, and then spend three weeks discussing if and/or how we want to adjust those stats for game balance."

It's because flasher reported that they weren't there.

Personally, I would remove the new ones.
