Currently developing a map/scenario based on the Lapland area of Sweden. Will cover an area bounded roughly by Sundsvall in the South East, Storlien at the south west corner, Lulea in the north east and Kiruna in the north west. So it should be possible to recreate the traffic flows on the Bothnian main line, Inlandsbanen and all the branch lines too.
Some compromise is necessary as the iron ore from the mines around Kiruna/Gallivare needs a destination (steelworks) as there is no facility in Lomo to export goods via a port(al). That also means adding coal mines which I believe in reality don't exist in northern Sweden. Lots of forestry is the other main industry base! Work is going quite well though terraforming takes a bit of time to do right. Hopefully more news in a week or so.

Quite right, singaporekid. I want to design a scenario which is not too cluttered - because the game area in Lomo can't be resized if you tackle too big an area it looks cramped, like the default UK scenarios. This way there will be plenty of room for a reasonable run between towns (more money) and more prototypical rail layout. Maybe it's an unconventional approach but I'm kind of looking at using Lomo as a 3D Bahn.

Just to clarify - this is a user created scenario not a randomly generated map (I wouldn't waste my bandwidth with that). The geographical extent is listed in the first post in this thread. I have not included every town or village as the aim was to achieve a well spaced map. However very noticeable that the towns have expanded rapidly over 20 years, in facy Storuman and Arvidsjaur are nearly touching! The average number of passengers waiting at Storuman is probably equivalent to half the real population. I don't think my one coach, one train shuttle for the Inlandsbanan will suffice much longer...

This thread was dead for OVER TWO YEARS and still you bumped it. My hat is off to you, sir.
As for Vern, he's essentially retired from the whole train gaming scene (his website closed about a year ago!) so unless someone saved Scandia, I doubt you'll be able to find a copy of it.

This is Vern here!
Unfortunately I lost my password and of course my old email account no longer exists so have had to adopt a new persona.
I'm still taking an interest in the train sim scene, albeit tempered with other things (such as Flight Sim and truck driving sims).
In the meantime, have found Scandia lurking on the hard drive so have just uploaded it (hopefully successfully) for anyone that's still interested.

18 Wheels of Steel Haulin'Train-a-Mania wrote:Out of curiosity, which truck-driving games?
Very much improved over the original Hard Truck, 18 Wheels of Steel. Bigger Map, more companies, trucks and commodities plus you can recruit and manage drivers to do contract work.
The same company that develops Haulin' (SCS) is also producing a Bus Driving sim for release in 2007.
And there's another truck sim called Rig'n'Roll currently in the works which will offer a detailed map of California.
More info on the various truck sims at this site:

Hard Truck 2 is probably the better game for Europeans - it's got nice Scania, Volvo, Renault and Mercedes trucks alongside the usual American stuff... it also seems to do the long distances a bit better than 18 Wheels of Steel (I've only played Across America, which was good but it seemed you were constantly crossing ANOTHER highway interchange). I'll look forward to that bus sim, given at the moment there's only Tokyo Bus Guide to keep me happy.
BTW, cheers for the CD, Vern, much appreciated!
