Sabotage of competitors?
I've just picked up the game and started playing but can't see anyway to sabotage competitors, eg blow up their trains using yours to cause a collinsion and the same to road vehicles that was possible in TTO. Is this possible or do you just have to accept that the competition will carry on and you cannot in any way stop them?

You cant even buy them out anymore.andy1314 wrote:I've just picked up the game and started playing but can't see anyway to sabotage competitors, eg blow up their trains using yours to cause a collinsion and the same to road vehicles that was possible in TTO. Blocking them from road traffic is easy. Build a railroad across their road (which you can do it Loco but not in TT). Sit a car - use a short one so you don't have to build too much track - on that section that crosses the road. Wait until they shift the road, then move your train to block it. Normally takes a few times, but they *will* abandon that route eventually. Trains I haven't been able to stop. But airport are also easy. Every time they start clearing land, drop railroad tracks on the clearing before they can place the airport. In cities you can use a bus or truck to block tram tracks. Altho eventually your truck\bus will move out of the way on its own.
Hi, first time poster long time TT and now Loco player.
The only way I have found so far to undertake some sabotage is to block competitor’s road networks.
If they have a flat un-bridged piece of road then you can build a couple bits of rail across it and plonk a wagon on the rail so rendering the road useless. Sometimes the competitor will rebuild the section to get around the blockage, but most of the time they will just give up the route - for a while at least. Whichever option the competitor takes they will have a couple of month’s worth of losses raked up because of the blockage.
It doesn't quite work in reverse (blocking rail with road) as if you plonk a road vehicle down stopped, after a wee while it will go to a green flag and start driving back and forth on the bit of road of its own accord. Using trams might work, although I haven't tried this yet.
I have only used the technique a couple of times when I am chasing a target to be the top company and someone else is racing away and requires pegging back, but it is one small way that you can hit back at the competitors that happily cut you up when you are laying out routes!

There are a couple of other things you can do...
He's just now built a railway passenger line which is turning a decent profit, even though it only carries 30 or so passengers per trip. I've covered the area in seperate tram stops but he still manages to get scrounge up enough passengers to make a profit.
Anyone have any further ideas?
- Destroy natural resources around farms and forests.
Level out slanted tiles and build railroad track on the ones that are already level. Make sure you get everything. If you make sure to destroy all the cultivated land, the production of the farm or forest will drop to 0 and your competitor will eventually cancel the route.
After a while, the farmer who's livelihood you just destroyed might try to make new fields if there's enough free land in the vicinity... obviously you must not allow such insolence! Check back from time to time and plow through his crop with railroads and send a clear message to other farmers who might be considering employing the services of your competitors
Once your competitor bugs out, you can clear the land and start building your own transport line for when the farm eventually recovers. - Build as many stations around an industry as it can handle in order to get the lions share of it's goods.
This is the ultimate way to compete for goods.
If you build just 1 station to compete for the goods then you'll only deny your competitor of about half of the production, if your stations have similar ratings. Build 2 seperate stations and you'll get 2/3rds.... 4 stations and you'll get 4/5ths....
There's an example attached. Note that this is not one station with 4 tracks, but rather, 4 seperate stations next to each other. You can do this by starting the stations away from each other, then expanding them into place. The NPC company eventually gave up this route.
Note, though, that there is usually a maximum number of allowed stations around an industry, whereafter new stations will not recieve any goods at all, so there is a limit.

Anyone have any further ideas?

- Four *seperate* stations competing with the NPC's single station.

Re:Andy 1314 Sabotage of competitors and demedes contrbution
Hi Guys
Demedes has made some excellent points and his recommends - aka competion and multistations have been taken on board (herinafter refered to as the "The demedes competition principia".
Attached is a screenshot expanding upon demedes competition principia. which I wish this to be declared as The demedes (gibboloco pricipia locosmentus). Rather than seperate and distinct station names, my stations will have the "same Prefixed name" with a description of the services provided by the 'platform.
So as can be seen there are 7 'Platforms' each declaring to serve a slightly differing function. There is also attached to the station area one open siding plus 2 depots, each not part of the station name but giving a service for maintaining the local trains.
That's it. The rest speaks for itself. So thanks to you both for bringing up each subject - like to think we are helping each other with our collective intuitive ideas, rather than just sending negative postings. I'ts so easy to destroy, it's so much harder to create . Keep it going lads.
Kindest Regards

Well ive created my own scenarios, i only play alone or with my brother on the network, the computer players build railroads like there stupid.
strange corners and strange elevated tracks.
I like playing alone on a map, its great not having to wonder what computer controlled idiot will come next
Making a nice scenario is very easy ( I think ) so that should solve the problem

Playing solo (NO AI competion)
Hi there
Yep I'm almost certain that many players of this game play solo.
When I bought my children their first Trainset they loved playing with it - it was fun, it was educational, it was constructive and it was a 'toy' that helped them take full control without outside interference (All part of growing up). I ended up making them a giant Hornby 00, they had hours and hours and hours of fun. (wife and I also).

Using Buffer-stop
hi There NitrousX
Have you tried that buffer stop (to see it operate as I have advised). I hope you have, and if you now use it , then good for you.
If it does not work, then our DAT files must differ.
Kind regards
gibboloco
