I think in the orignal graphics the contrast was very low, so going too high will be untrue to that, but more inportantly the left hand side of each building will be quite dark, wich is good for a left facing building but not others. It would mean a large part of all the graphics will be dark. The high does look like it has more depth and is quite realistic (also I agree to what richk67 said in the other topic). The left hand shaddowing is maybe slightly heavy. I therefore think that the middle one provides a bit of both.

It might be an idea to make the background colour less glaringly white. I often have the feeling that it tends to throw off perception. Something that looks good on an all-white background doesn't necessarily look good on less bright backgrounds.
A computer scientist is someone who, when told to "Go to Hell," sees the "go to," rather than the destination, as harmful.
for now the middle one seems to take the lead. As I am going to be on holiday for about a month, I updated the template file you can download from the wiki. that doesn't mean it can't be changed anymore though.
actually the alteration is simple:
light ("sun") energy: was 1 before, is 1.15 in the new version
ambient occlusion intensity: was 1.75 before, is 0.5 in the new version
you can even try new versions by playing around with those 2 parameters yourself
