OTOH if you asked the powers that be (Mihamix, Celestar, etc.) for dev permissions just for use on MiniIN, then Im sure they would be happy. Just dont expect any tolerance if you use the commit power in other branches/trunk.Hazelrah wrote:IIRC, he was asking for help from people who had commit permission. While I'd love to help out that way, I don't quite fufill the requirements.SirkoZ wrote:Hazelrah - perhaps you could help Rich instead with taking care of the existing miniIN - he was asking for help some posts back - besides you know your programming.

Hmm, I guess asking doesn't hurt. Dang if that's all it took, I'd have been at the front of the line a couple of weeks ago.
One thing is that starting next week I'm heading back home from Japan to the States, and I'm taking the long way around with a bit of a European trip, so I may only be able to make sporatic updates until the end of August. But I'm certainly willing to put in any time that I can!
So umm... what is the best way to contact the powers that be. IRC?

Yeah, or email to Celestar, DV, Mihamix via the contacts on the OTTD website. That may be better. I think if its limited to MiniIN, I cant see any objections to be honest. Not rational ones. But as I said; dev rights mean access everywhere; misuse them at your peril.

Man, I wouldn't dream of doing that on purpose, and if I f***ed up on accident I'd expect privledges to be suspended immediatly as I'm obviously too incompetent for them.richk67 wrote: But as I said; dev rights mean access everywhere; misuse them at your peril.
I'll try email. Thanks richk67!

PS. May not have gotten all the new patches, but I got a few links on the wiki now.
I think this is an excellent idea. What about also having a MiniIN problems thread in the OTTD Problems forum. It would hopefully reduce the number of MiniIN bug reports in amongst the OTTD bug reports.richk67 wrote:I was actually thinking of a MiniIN TODO list thread; in which no discussion was allowed, but only posts of patches and updates to patches.
I have finished a MiniIN version of my Drive-Through Road Stops patch. I had to make a few small changes to get it working with subsidiaries but it seems to work now. I still want to do I little more testing but should be able to post it later today. If you start a MiniIN TODO thread by then I will post it there.

Done; now a sticky in the problems forum.mart3p wrote:I think this is an excellent idea. What about also having a MiniIN problems thread in the OTTD Problems forum. It would hopefully reduce the number of MiniIN bug reports in amongst the OTTD bug reports.
Ive created the thread; just need to get it sticky. Its in the Suggestions forum.I have finished a MiniIN version of my Drive-Through Road Stops patch. i agreed
miniIN is become the ottd version to test new features, as the nightly builds at the beginning
now nightlies are only for testing and have 2 or 3 features so i prefer playing with miniIN and i'll be very happy if is possible to have a place to talk about the features that miniIN includes but individually, like:
[TGP] Talk here for the bugs
[Daylength] Let me know your problems
[Subsidiaries] You have troubles? post here!
so know where is the error and who is working on it will be quickly than now and developers won't have to search in the 234324 pages of the single topic where is the right post

In some ways I agree, but in others I dont.meowsqueak wrote:I would have thought the MiniIN build has reached sufficient user support that it warrants having its own subforum? Would certainly make reading, posting and managing suggestions, bugs, patches, complaints, ideas and comments far, far easier.
What would have to be done for this to become a reality?
With this new arrangement, I have only 3 threads to check in; this one, the problems thread, and the patches thread.
If there were a subforum, I would have to try to keep track of all threads in the subforum and know which has been dealt with, and which hasnt. It may actually be harder to follow.
We shall see; Im not convinced about the need for a subforum.

Good point - will change sig shortlymart3p wrote:Richk, an idea I’ve had for the TODO thread: would it be useful for you, to have patch Developers edit their posts, once they see their changes committed? e.g. “Edit: DONE - committed at r5537” or something along those lines.

NewGRF: Oil Wells in Temperate terrain now can Increase production, Better vehicle names, Use-able default aircraft, Oil Rig for Snowland and Desert, Speed for Suspension bridges.
Patches (OpenTTD): Improved smooth_economy [in trunk], More (diesel) smoke [in trunk], Realistic_acceleration finetune.
Keep 'em rollin'!

I would actually appreciate it if you no longer "advertised" the old Integrated Nightly, and pre-SVN MiniIN. Both are dead projects, so Im not sure its helpful to point people to them.SirkoZ wrote:Good point - will change sig shortlymart3p wrote:Richk, an idea I’ve had for the TODO thread: would it be useful for you, to have patch Developers edit their posts, once they see their changes committed? e.g. “Edit: DONE - committed at r5537” or something along those lines.

who developed the 'advanced town handling' patch?

will do, in future. i was just wondering what algorithm you used to calculate the cost increase for building things in/near a town, because it gets really excessive when the towns become pop 20k or more. im talking 2 million to build a square of road.

Yeah, and? who cares? when a town reaches 20K population you should have extrem too much money. If you do not like it turn it off. The whole idea behind it was to make the game a bit more difficult. In 1950 (or other start date) it is not really more expensive then without, but that increases as more the town grows. About the way it is calculated take a look at the thead in the development forum.
it doesnt go well with my usual strategy, which is to have a single, main town where a majority of my financial gain takes place. i keep it on because its challenging, and yes, because it makes money still meaningful.
however, it could be worth noting: at gamestart (1928) a town with 15 population will increase cost to build half a square of road by approx 40%, and a town pop 300 multiplies cost by 5.
thats to build 2 squares away from the town name.

Building something is not so expensive. You do always buy the landtile too, but until yet, you did not get a tile with a sign and your color back, if you demolish the tile. But curently it makes no big difference (imo), you make to much money anyway. That what is really expensive is demosihing houses. On a town with a population of ~75K it took me some millions to demolish only ONE house.
