Colorado set [early planning]

Post by dragonhorseboy »

after having played with Wile E. Coyote's Serbian NG trainset and Pikka's NARS I soon came to realizing that D&RGW and other railroads were missed out then I thought that perhaps I would try to put a Colorado set together (includes D&RGW and any other Colorado-located railroad, cattle traffic, and so on)

I'm looking for some graphic artists if they would feel free to join, I already know where to find historic photos for most of the rolling stocks I need but you're free to find your own too.

non-rail vehicles are welcomed as long as they are ones that were sighted frequently in colorado :) .. I have not even gathered any information nor photos on this part so you'll be on your own tho

I'll try to start a tracking table although that may take a while (then again its taken me five long days to find locomotives&wagons data and good photo sites o0 oo scares me!)
[edit: graphic artists please check my text list assembled together a few posts down and feel free to ask for any photo links I've got]

regard coding it..I may be doing that but if anyone mention that they'll like to code any part of it, feel free to ask for part of the data I've amassed together already

I'm busy with the BR Set, so can't really assist, but I wish you the best of luck, sir.

I love to help with the smaller sets, but I've really put far too much on my plate then a small time drawer/coder/manager can handle.

danmack, of COURSE *grins*
where would I had gone with the long list of D&RGW diesels anyhow? :-D

whitehand and dave, thanks still .. I was expecting that seeing how there are quite a lot of progressing/taser-released sets this week already

edit: danmack, to be exact a big part of the NG rooster was removed in the 30's .. small part going to other railroads, large part being cut up

Well, there are 5 NG locos I can think of that would be worth including. If you wanted to include other locos like the Denver and Salt Lake engines,

Colorado & Southern/Rio Grande Southern 2-6-0
Colorado & Southern/D&RGW 2-8-0 - C-16 Class
D&RGW K-27 'Mudhen' 2-8-2 -
D&RGW K-36 2-8-2 480-489 - 1925-1970
D&RGW K-37 2-8-2 490-499 - 1928-1970

Rio Grande Southern Galloping Goose

Standard Gauge locos - Hope this helps

Steam Locos
Diesel Locomotives

Feel free to use my D&RGW PA's from the USSet

danmack I had already noted these five steam engines but thanks still.

I'm looking into including goose #1-#5 and #7 if I could.
(I left #6 out because it was only an inspection vehicle which of course is not useable ingame)

I just found drgw.net early this morning and it covered some gaps in my diesel years-of-worklife data, thanks for mentioning the link again still :)

after you mentioned it, I had to look at the trains table for the usset while typing this reply and...I could reuse these listed below with some minor graphic changes needed:
~ Challenger ('classic trains: steam glory #2' magazine refers to D&RGW having five in 1942)
~ EMD F7 & Alco PA
~ GE 44-tonner, Alco S2, Alco RS3, GP9, SD45

(I don't know if the SD40-2 and SD40T-2 were identical, perhaps anyone who knows diesels pretty well could tell me? I needed a SD40T-2 and the usset has a SD40-2 in it)

edit: I'm still trying to clean up to compile a quick text-only list of locomotives and wagons to place here so it'll be easier to know what is planned to be introduced or needs more data or for the 'hey you missed a particular engine!' people to reply to *grins*

Sure, feel free to use anything you want of mine. Also, if you want to use the F7's in the NARS, feel free.

There are noticable differences in the SD40-2 and SD40T-2 (40T-2 and 45T-2 lookl identical at TTD scale)

If you want, I can do an SD40T-2 version for you.

re: D&RGW Challengers, they actually had 21 4-6-6-4's

feel to do the SD40T-2 if you do want to :)

I didn't notice that page before, thanks for it .. that adds two more steam classes to my datas :D

(I've noticed a few instances of where one same class came from both Baldwin and Alco but having slight different specifications from either builders...kinda interesting isn't it?)

I checked my magazine on the Challenger again and tracked down the engine number mentioned in photo caption and well it looks like all (?) of them had a white/black stripped metal plate on front which I think should be redrawn onto the D&RGW version of the Challenger just to be relastic? this is an artist render but it shows the front well still: http://www.xmission.com/~ghb4884/htm/xmas/full/4664.jpg

M-64, M-67, M-68, M-69, M-75, M-78
L-62, L-76, L-77 (weight & tractive?), L-95 (L-96 refered to as L-95), L-97 L-105, L-107, L-108, L-109, L-131, L-132

Baldwin VO-660

Fairbanks-Morse H-10-44 & H-15-44

Krauss-Maffei ML-4

D&RGW shopped motor car (ex RGW coach in 1927)

notes
tender graphic to include wood doghouses on all NG K-class?
lima shays may be included, will have to see about their slow top speed
I'm missing lengths for almost all steam except the K class..anyone?

--end of list--
.. sorry if it is so long here *grins* but of course I wouldn't be asking for all of them, many are identical so they would probably be grouped together in ttdpatch and shown by multiply numbers in the 'Class:' description field in depot or the so

thanks to danmack for I didn't know that these L95 and L105 classes were Challenger's then again the page for data I had found did not mention much and had no photos so

One thing I would recommend is showing the wheel arrangement (ie, 2-8-0, 4-6-2, etc) next to the class.

A D&RGW set is interesting, but what are you going to do for post merger??

hm good thought, after a quick look at the table I decide to make a seperarte summary list here instead...

2-8-2: all K classes
0-6-0: S33
2-8-0: all C classes
4-6-0: all T classes
4-6-2: P44
2-10-2: F81
4-8-2: M67, M69, M75, M78
4-8-4: M64, M68
2-6-6-2: L62, L76
2-6-6-0: L77
2-8-8-2: L95, L107, L109, L131, L132
4-6-6-4: L97, L105, L108

hope that will help .. which of checking my datas I've got a few steam classes not listed here yet but I even have to find what their wheel arrangement and builders are so .. meh

edit: if you meant by the merge with UP humm...that I may have to think about seeing the game can progress way past year 2000, I'm sure I'll figure something out for sure tho so don't worry

well I've started drawing part of two easy coaches myself but having trouble with end views for one if anyone would be willing to help?

photo of actual one is at http://drgw.free.fr/DRGW/Passenger/DS-02-001_en.htm .. I wasn't quite able to figure out the roof

whim edit: I know there's supposed to be a black strip above the windows but I decided that since the wagon was drawn at birdeye-like angle it wouldn't be seen so hence I decided to not draw it

(attachment is from Paint which was set to 600% zoom)

nut-n-bolt nitpicky comment: I know there is supposed to be twelve windows but due to the limitation of pixel sizes I had to do with eleven instead .. hehehe :P

You can use my early NG coaches from the Canset if you want as a base for these. Below are some base sprites to use for the D&RGW stuff.

(sorry for shameless frequent posts heh)

comments on this Tempo coach car? (there were only doors at one end)

I'm still trying to work on diagonal views which seem to be a bit tricky on anything to me yet so hence they're not included for now

edit: door shaded, and I hate to note that the actual cars had dark blue tinted windows all around so I think I'll leave that as it is?

Yeah, it could use some more details. Shade the windows, highlight the door by using a slichtly darker or lighter color, shade the roof in all directions, and it'll look a lot better :D

Good start tho.

spaceball let me have permission to reuse the A300 in my own livery so this is my progress on the generic A300 so far :D

its only partial repainted now, still got to add the bottom red strip and figure out the nose but I thought I'll ask for pre-release comments

I took this for as a single reference: http://www.airchive.com/airline%20pics/ ... 00%201.jpg
