A few questions about the Trains

Post by flasher86 »

1: Why almost all of the engines are red in DBSetXL. Can I change that colors? This red is AWFUL. Perhaps I should check some switches. I dont know.

2: In attached image you can see banner of Dutch trainset. And some of these engines are very cool but when I try download and install it (DTsetPRw.GRF) from dutch trainset home page there are only two ore three new engines and they doesnt look's very well. Where is the rest of these cool trains?

1. The engines are red 'cause they are in real life. realism's one of MB's biggest priorities, so there's nothing you can do about that. if you want to adjust the colours yourself, try the UK Renewal set or the North American Renewal set. be sure to have the 2CC running though.

2. The dutch trainset is still in developement, the one you've downloaded is a teaser GRF, and an old one as well. you'll simply have to wait, like i do for this magnificent set. a new version's bound to pop out sooner or later.

Yeah we're working on it, slowly. ATM almost everything has been drawn, now Hyro is busy with making some overviews for our coder so he knows how to code it.
The version available at our website is just a pre-release containing like 4 trains.
Thanks for your enthusiasm both of you tho. :D

well, it's quite hard not to get enthusiastic about this set, 'innit? oh, by the way, i don't know if anyone knows which one i'm talking about, but near Den Haag Centraal, there's a really small (read: extremely tiny) diesel somewhere along the way onwards into the station. anyone got an idea what it might be? unfortunately i haven't got the equipment to directly take a photo next time (like a cell phone capable of something like that), so perhaps someone recognizes my description.

yeah, i know. off-topic and wrong thread. but hey. :P

Thanks guys. I was little concerned about that becouse I just saw this banner couple of months ago and it was still under developement.

And one more thing. I would like to do some mix of engines from few trainsets. Is there possible? For example I like few engines from DBSetXL and a few from JapanSet. Is there any way to split these sets so I could use the both engines?

We're busy for 3 years now ;)

Not without coding your own GRF file. Which would require knowledge of NFO, and permission to use artwork of those sets.

wow. The graphics drew. So whats the problem? Coding doesnt spending 3 years dude  Someone got lazy :D

I am thinking that whole trainsset is a good idea. Why dont you release that engines separatly. It would be very good thing. Any one could add that engines that he is like. And I wouldnt recode any .nfo file.

Can you tell me when you probably release the final version? Just approximate pls :D

Shut up, start coding yourself then

Some of us actually have something called "Real Life" which costs a considerable amount of time.

That someone would be me.

Proof us that coding a complete trainset and living a life doesn't take 3 years and I'll consider agreeing with you. For now I pity you as you think you know better.

Well, AFAIR, I coded the first version of the DBXL in approximately four months but admittedly that was in winter ... 8)

You work alone and I do wonder how your life looks like sometimes ;). Everyone involved in the Dutch trainset team are students and I was the only coder after broodje stopped working on the set. And as I'm not a genius on understanding what patchman (+ you) put on the Wiki... :P.

Well, since after 3 years all graphical work seems to be done, I guess after 3 more years the coding would be done.

i think we could put it up with the classic quotes of history by now, along with "I have a dream..." and "Ich bin ein berliner".

Yes, I totally understand your point. I didn´t say you should have finished earlier nor did I whine about you didn´t succeeded in doing it. I just wanted to point out that your statement was too general.to be true. 8)

Besides, I have to admit that today the pressure of expectation is much higher than at a time when the first sets were released and in addition, the complexity of coding work has risen due to lots and lots of novel patch features.
