Excellent model. The one problrm is that it is too thin. The roof curvature makes it looks strange because it's too thin. Can you try stretching it a bit? HSTs are rather fat.
The best dead-on photo I could find is rather strange.

Strange, i thourght it was fat, so thinned it, but yeah your right, i'll fattern it up.
I struggled to find (like normal) any good images of the 'bogie' underneath the train, and ive never really paid enough/any attention to trains, or there bogie's, so im not too shore what it looks like.. All these train spotter sites seem to have taken them on the platforms. ...Any clear images of how its bogie works/looks like would be really helpful, cause i want to redo that section.

I find modelling sites tend to have good profile images: Hornby are especially clear.Born Acorn wrote:Excellent model. The one problrm is that it is too thin. The roof curvature makes it looks strange because it's too thin. Can you try stretching it a bit? HSTs are rather fat.

BR Inter City 125 HST - no smoke baffle
Inter City 125 HST - GreatWestern colours - note the smoke baffle
From the Enlarge Picture option, you can see that your model is about 10% too long for its height. Otherwise, its fantastic.
Now what would be cool would be one all over in baby pink

This is it fatter, it was way too thin when i check it up against that image.
In terms of legth i checked it against the hornby train origianlly, and i actually made it slightly shorter, cause i reconed it was too long... now its fatter, do you still think its too long?
The problem with the hornby site is although the scaling is helpful, all the underneath is simplified.

That looks very nice... and although they do have the black streaks, could we have variants?
NewGRF allows you to specify the image to use based on things like train age, and I hope we don't lose this functionality when going to 32bpp. So we could have a nice clean IC125 when it is brand new, and then after a few runs it could get dirtied up.
This could even be a visual indicator of how old your trains are; make a really dirty version show when the vehicle is due to be replaced...

i still dislike the dirt/bumps but it looks great apart from that.... (can you try to remove that)Ben_Robbins_ wrote:This is it fatter, it was way too thin when i check it up against that image.

I have a feeling this picture was posted a while ago, but it gives you a pretty good view of the bogie.

Well heres the black streaks, and it without blackstreaks, and then a gif running threw it. Then heres the max file as well, although theres still bits to do, but im outta time now, and going kayaking for next weekish, so ill do/make more changes after that. (If the .gif doesnt work <crazy vaclav>, its just the graduall change between the 2 jpg's,)
But i was really just making the mesh, cause it may need retexuring in blender, but i texture as i model, casue i find it easier that way...So its ended up textured.
The lighting is in no way correct..either...so these are really just progress images i guess.

I'm afraid I can in no way convince my eyes that the black streaks are black streaks and not shadows from bumps on the roof.Ben_Robbins_ wrote:Well heres the black streaks, and it without blackstreaks, and then a gif running threw it.
EDIT: This is not to say that I think I could do it better. I have the same problem with most of the images that Peter1138 posted.

To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Nope. That is the livery of one company's HSTs. (which are now being withdrawn from service). The classic design in Ben's graphic is the style when the HST was in British Rail service. Once the railway companies were privatised (damn the tories), all kinds of new liveries came out (GW, MM, Virgin, GNER, etc.)ZxBiohazardZx wrote:that is the 2004 livery of the HST ( for if you want to change the colours in certain year or so....

It will make a lot more sense when travelling at speed with plumes of diesel smoke streaking back over it.DaleStan wrote:I'm afraid I can in no way convince my eyes that the black streaks are black streaks and not shadows from bumps on the roof.
