Bastiaan's graphics
In this topic I will post graphics that are not directly related to an other graphics project.
My first object is a station building based on the Dutch station of Emmen and Coevorden. There is only one view finished. If you think it looks good, I will draw the other view too.

First of all, good job! Seems that my drawings inspired a couple of people.
Second a few comments:
- Perhaps it would be good to add a bit more space around the building like pavement. Also a step up to the platforms would be good. The roof seems larger then the building on the photos then in your picture, but i am not sure...
Perhaps we should create a WIP Dutch stations where we post our finished stations. Also some general guidelines for the set would be good to have: -zimmlocks height and width guidelines. Several stages in time for buildings etc.

@ Bastiaan a ttd sprite should have some grass around it to make it blend into the grid. I have a feeling your sprite is a bit to long for a tile, but I could be wrong. It is a good start though
.
Maybe someone could make a platform with benches, one with a waiting house, a ticket machine? and other parts to make it possible to build stations like the stationXL set from MB. (the number one reason why I don't use the American stations is the lac of proper building blocks).
and please if you want it to be coded, make sure you deliver your station also as sprite blocks, including (for example) the transparent yellow for roofs.

Thanks for your comments. I also think the roof is too small. I will take a good look at it.
@broodje: The graphic is still in a very early stadium. I even haven't drawn the other view yet. When I completely finished the building, I will make it "codable".

That won't be nessicairy for a station. When you build a station in TTD, it's finished in one click.Caelan wrote:Several stages in time for buildings etc.

What i ment for stages in time for buildings is that we haev an era of such and such buildings from 1921 to eg 1940 then an era with a different type of style from 1940-1970 etc...
It would be nice if we created some sprites for ticket machines, benches, signs etc. Then we can add those easily... As i mentioned i will be working on the platforms with/without roofs, buildings, signs: you name it.

Ah ok. Then this station would appear in the 1960s era.Caelan wrote:What i ment for stages in time for buildings is that we haev an era of such and such buildings from 1921 to eg 1940 then an era with a different type of style from 1940-1970 etc...
Changed roof and added purple environment to show that it really fits on a TTD square

Good work. Keep going. To make good sprites is just a matter of some talent and a lot of experience.
Just for information, TTRS-v3 ll have the next time era: 20-50 50-80 80-10 and 10-70 but last is untill the end of times. It means i have to draw of each building 4 versions.
For stations i think this time arangement is not good, i would like to sugest 3 time era, 20-60 60-00 and 00-70 (infinity) but do not let the station change, but let the type of station depend on the time era it is build in, and it remains the way it was build. this because stations buildings do not change verry often, just an idea.
About sizes, i use 6-7 pixel high windows on modern buildings and 7-8 on olde buildings, but this can be more for both, station halls are mostly 2 or 3 floors high.
A normal door i make 3 pix wide, a small door 2 and large doors 4 pix.

For the time-lines for stations, yes, I agree with Zimmlock. And this is already how I do my stations. Don't have them changing over time, it's a 'free upgrade' essentially, and a town authority won't let you do major reconstruction of a station if you can't already provide a decent working service.
Just set introduction dates to stations, and have others to stop being availible after a while. When you get a group of station sets with such compatible artwork as the ones I've put together, the stations that grow over time look quite interesting.
