All Hail the Polish Rail Worker!

In only five intense months the construction workers of the PKP have completed the entire passenger network for the company. This achievement was due in no small part to the investment of several squillion freshly-laundered zloty, but what the heck.

Alas, we have only one train running so far; smuggled across the border from Germany. It is now time to get the workers cracking on creating more rolling stock.

Ok guys. It has been a while again already. Here is a story that will give you some impression of my latest game.

Playing somewhere between a Rock and a River. Must be somewhere in Canada. Lot's of snow and lot's of brand new Canadian trains. Anyways, Here we go....

Business Trip to Hells Garden

Typical, again. It was the second day of my winter holidays that I was spending with my wife and the kids up in Devil’s Peak. We have a little holiday home there and it’s great for ski-ing. But it was all ruined when I switched on the mobile and saw that my Head of Operations had called and I decided to call back. He said that the sales manager was unavailable on holidays as well, and that he had forgotten to tell him that there is a business evaluation to be held in Hells Garden with the owner of the local forest. I had a long talk with my wife and decided that I will cut the last two days from our holidays and will do the trip myself. So on early Thursday morning I was waiting for the small train heading down to Lands End.

I will post three pics per post now, otherwise the thing gets too long.

2 downhill to land's end.png
We are heading downhill towards the flat land. Just now we are leaving the forests and pass trough the farming land.

3 Lands end arrival.png
After another while we are arriving at Lands End. Our connecting train is not yet here and a look to the timetable tells me that it will be a while until departure. That gives me a good chance to look at the station building which was built in the mission style some years ago. It’s the beauty of the town.

4 Land's End viaduct.png
I got time as well to inspect another spectacular piece of engineering. It’s the Lands End viaduct, which some of the locals claim is overloaded with traffic. Somehow, I can’t believe that, but I might come back someday to inspect it in details.

5 Coast express arrival in lands end.png
Just in time to watch the arrival of our train, I’m back at the station. The “Lands End Coast Express” is pulled by a AB unit of FP7. These are running for a couple of years now but are still high standard in passenger traveling. This particular one is scheduled for refurbishment in a couple of months.

6 Still waters arrival.png
After a short trip, we approach the small town of Still Waters. The local is waiting at platform two. It will head back to Lands End shortly. I have made myself comfortable in the 1st class coach and I can enjoy the view.

7 Still waters coastline.png
The view just keeps getting better. Just after Still waters, the line curves along the coastline. This must be where the train has got its name from.

8 Eastern Banley Power Plants.png
Now the view has changed. High above Eastern Banley, we pass the Banley Bay Power plants. The terminus of the commuter line can be seen as well as the narrow gauge coal unloading station, where the coal from Devil’s peak is unloaded. Most of the coal however is brought in by ships.

9 Banley Museum.png
Shortly before arriving at Banley City Grand Central, we pass the City’s Transport Museum, where some of our old and classy steamers are preserved for the next generation. My personal favorite is however the PA, which is parked here together with some streamlined coaches.

10 Banley City Grand Central.png
Just before lunchtime and right on time we pull in to platform four at the Banley City Grand Central. My connecting train is waiting already at platform two. Planned departure in ten minutes.

11 Banley City out.png
A pair of powerful FP45 is hauling our Icicle Pass express. I’m looking for a table in the dining car where I will enjoy a nice lunch, while watching the passing landscape. I'm wondering where they found those mail coaches??

12 Western Banley.png
After leaving the tunnels we are passing Western Banley. An area highly industrial. The food from this packing plant is shipped all over the map from here. Most of it in modern intermodal trains. The one passing the bridge just in front of us is hauling a couple of containers to the Northern Banley Docks, where they will be loaded on to ships. The platform in the middle of the tracks is the end of the C line.

13 Oil pass.pngShortly after Western Banley, our tracks are blocked by a crossing oil train. This is one of our last steamers in use and it hauls Oil from the Shallow Gorge Oilwells to the Northern Banley refineries.

14 Food pass.png
Progress is slow. Just a short while and we are stopped again. This time it’s a TOFC hauling pair of SD40-2 that got priority from the dispatchers. I’m starting to think about building a second rail line dedicated for passenger transport.

15 Branch off mainline.png
Shortly after the viaducts the line branches off.

16 Hardhat Valley.png
Approaching Hardhat Valley. We won’t be stopping here. The little village has grown significantly recently, thanks to regular food supplies from the Western Banley Factories.

17 Hardhat ind sidings.png
After the station we pass the Hardhat Valley industrial sidings. Currently only the gold from the mines are hauled from here. The kickback is also used for turnaround of the food delivery train.

18 Uphill.png
Shortly after Hardhat, the line starts climbing. This is where the power of the FP45s is highly appreciated. Parts of the curvy old line are still left, but the layout had to be changed to facilitate ever increasing traffic.

19 Close to Icicle.png
We are getting closer to Icicle Pass, after miles of wild landscape, first signs of the town are coming into sight. Just passing a FP7 on a local run down to Farmer’s Marketplace.

20 arrival at Icicle.png
Finally just before 6pm we arrive at Icicle Pass. Its too late to start the final journey to Hell’s Garden. So I will go to the local hotel. In the Skyview restaurant I enjoy the dinner.

21 departure to Hell's Garden.png

The next morning. The first bus service of the day is waiting in front of the bank. I’m boarding and shortly afterwards we are of.

22 Nothing but snow.png
We are on our way to Hells garden. It’s snowing and bitter cold. I hope I don’t have to spend too much time outside.

and the last one...

savegame for the interested ones posted in a minute.

23 Hell's Garden arrival.png
Finally, we are arriving at Hells Garden. The little forest is the only income for the little village. We meet the owners in the Cottage right by the church. Unfortunately, the output of the forest is quite low and the distance to the next papermill is too far to make any sort of profit. We have agreed to meet again in a year, to see weather transporting the wood has become more lucrative. For now, I will have to head back to Banley. But that journey will follow next time.
