I agree,
Maybe this would be a good place for people to 'dump' their sprites that theyve drawn from european countries, then people from EU Sets could check throught the list of sprites and be able to include them in their sets... Just an idea.
I would be happy to help Wile E. Coyote, if he wants, to just keep the website up-to-date and act like a repository, that way, anyone who draws any random EU catgo sprites can post it here and then their work maybe used by a major set...
Just ideas

From my opinion, all relevant train sets will not only include own coaches but also own freight cars. Now, if these sets will be "european" in the sense of "using UIC coded wagons" they would either use own graphics or include graphics from this thread, so the graphical work already done wouldn´t be lost.
OTOH, there are no convincing reasons to have a stand-alone set of freight wagons to be used by every "european" train set, especially because it´s hardly imagineable that it´ll include all the relevant wagons from before the UIC era.
regards
Michael

I see your points Michael...
By European i mean all countries that are on the european continent, not merely members of EU or UIC etc...
The current lack of playable sets is sometimes quite aggravating... This sort of set should help to speed up developments of such european sets.

Yes. But the development of such a "library" set of freight cars would be a large amount of work as well, and then it wouldn´t help much considering older types of freight cars which have been much more diversified throughout Europe than the UIC regulations reflect today. The current lack of playable sets is sometimes quite aggravating... This sort of set should help to speed up developments of such european sets.
regards
Michael
I agree with Michael. The idea of creating a stand-alone set for freight cars only is not a feasible one.
While it could work for modern freight cars, it would lack a lot in terms of old timer ones, especially in terms of liveries or specific cars.
Consider also the fact that every localized European set will have its own ID distribution, with a particular number of IDs reserved for freight wagons. Since at this point many European sets are already well ahead and some are next to completion (some are even completed already), asking that each and every set change their ID distribution just to include the ECS would not be realistic. At least, the French set will not do it, as I guess would be the case with other sets.
But I do think a very good raison d'être for the European cargo set would be, as mentioned, as a repository or pre-drawn carriages which every European localized set could take vehicles from. That would speed up some sets' completion a lot, and would introduce uniformity in freight cars in the later years, like it happened historically.
As one of the developers of the French set, I can say that we'd be very interested in taking some of the latest freight cars from this set; it would speed up the process dramatically and could help us focus on localized cars and engines.
So guys, keep it up! Your work is greatly appreciated

ECS defines only CARGO Ids destribution. Do any set, except ECS and MB's new cargo set define at all?Snail wrote:asking that each and every set change their ID distribution just to include the ECS would not be realistic.
Why? Looks like you misunderstanding the code part of the ECSSnail wrote:At least, the French set will not do it, as I guess would be the case with other sets.

Unless I misunderstand, Snail is talking about vehicle IDs.
Requiring that any set that wants to use wagon $FOO not use whatever pseudo-random ID it happens to have in the ECS is unreasonable, especially once Patchman implements enforced resource management.

To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Wouldnt that be New Cargo Scheme...?
Snail, i think you might have misunderstood slightly... The set was probably never going to be a redy set of freight cars just a sprite library or sprite repositroy that other sets could use to advance quickly...
Cheers
James

looks like some ideas died a long time ago...
European cargoset was supposed to be a real set, containing different freightcars forim different european countries, that would be later acompanied by the selection of best european locomotives, and was designed for people who prefer freight transport to passengers, so that they could make a trans-european scenario...

well, if that's so, then it's cool! I hope I didn't create any confusion here. We would definitely profit from such a repository.
As for the NCS, we would love to use it, introducing our specific cargos for the French Set. That is, after we draw all the trains

Colonel, nah, its just i think that idea got dumped beacuse with only 116 vehicle ids, the set wouldnt have had enough room for a diverse set of european freight cars plus a large amount of the most well-known and important european engines...
i think the idea is sort of now to be a 'library' set for other sets to use.

with 116 IDs, you can have 6 different passenger carridges, 30 different engines and 80 different freightcars... you would have all from each country, but still, it could have a great variety (not mentioning refits)
the real reason why the project got dumped was, that people stopped drawnig... each of the artists focused on finishing his native set (eg. me working slowly but surely on the CSDcargoset)

Colonel is probably right... New cargos and industries are stopped development of some sets too. Everybody wants to use those great features!

Re: European Cargo Set (ECS) - PROJECT LEADER NEEDED!
Bump...(wow almost 5 years...
)
I'm not sure who owns the rights to these sprites, but if I had these sprites they would become part of a fully ECS/PBI/FIRS compatible set.
With the engine pool, there would be roomfor many more vehicles than before

Thanks,
Jake

I am working on a Generic European Freight Car Set and I just found this old thread. I was wondering if I could please have permission to use these sprites; as they would greatly help the progress of my set. The GEFC is a very similar idea to this set, but it would make sense to put these sprites to good use since this idea was never realised. As I am currently working on generic European-style trains and an Austrian set, they would both make use of these graphics.jvassie wrote:I agree,
