How to install new graphics for TTDPatch

I will tell you the steps how you can install new graphics for TTDpatch. Please be sure you already installed the Patch. New graphics sets won't work with the original TT(D) without the Patch. In this topic it's shortly explained how to install the patch.
  • Download the basic graphics. These files contain new sprites for signals, catenary, trains (german ones) and some other things. The installation of this file is necessary. Any graphics set can be disabled any time, if you don't like it. You can get the files at http://www.ttdpatch.net . Be sure to download the Windows version (allw.zip) of the graphics if you have the Windows versions of TTD and the patch. Download the DOS file (all.zip) if you have the DOS versions installed. After downloading, unzip the files into the directory where TTDPatch is installed. You now should have a newgrf/ folder.
  • Download other graphics you like. They can be found at different places. A good place to start would be the Useful Graphic Tools & Sites topic at the TTDpatch Graphics Forum. Always be sure to download the correct version of the file (windows or dos). Some zip files may include both versions. Every zip file contains one or more .grf files. These are the actual graphics for TTDpatch. Put the correct .grf file in the newgrf/ folder.
  • Install the graphics. In your TTD folder you should have a file called newgrfw.cfg (Windows version) or newgrf.cfg (DOS version). Open this file with a plain text editor such as notepad. At top of the file add the line "newgrf/x.grf" where x.grf is the name of the .grf file. If the .grf file is called 'newrailwayfencew.grf' add the line "newgrf/newrailwayfencew.grf". You can disable any set by deleting the line or to put a '#' before it.
  • Save and run. Save your .cfg file and run the patch. It now should work fine.
If you experience any problems, I recommend you to read the manual first. There's a lot of information there. If you're problem isn't solved yet, first do a search on these forums; your problem might be posted before. If you can't find it, you can make your own topic. If nobody replies, it most probably means they don't know the answer. It might take a day before you get some replies, so please be patient.
