32bpp Interface?

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

32bpp Interface?

Post by GoneWacko »

Hmm, with the engine soon supporting 32bpp and the graphics looking a whole lot better, I think the UI might need a patch up as well, seeing as I kind of doubt it'll fit the new look very well.
Maybe a bit of transparency here, some shinyness there... Hmm?

yeah that would be nice.

i think we want to see some mockups before anyone tries to commit anything.

we could do a bit of rearanging if we feel like it too (i would think).

There are a few menus that could probably be better done. But I think on the whole, the UI is pretty uncluttered as it is.

One thing I would like to see is a unification of the center button vs eye icon.

The interface works perfectly now, IMO. You should only change the graphics, and perhaps add some small changes.

Well I was just suggesting it, I have no experience with any of the 32 bpp stuff nor the drawing routines :-P
And I agree with Alltaken. Mockup first.

How about that?

You can see normal pause button, pressed fast forward button (I've made also more pressed button variations) and expandable train list (notice the white arrow in the lowr-right corner)

Buttons can be in more different colors (like gray or sepia) but I think blue one fits the best

Comments please

They're both not TTD-ish, I think. You'll want a new interface but not one that's completely different and unrecognisable :)

(and it looks a bit fuzzy)

Uhh the buttons were about to be blue, but I think you're right - icons should have black glow (shadow) instead of white\blue one.

Hacky, icons are big because it is easier to make effects, also quality loss is smaller - I'll size them down when they are ready.

GoneWacko, I was making them while looking at TTD game buttons. Please point what's wrong, what's messing around, then I'll fix that, or at least try to do so.

heh, i doubt that that train for example will look good when scaled down...

Also, whats non-ttd-ish about them, is that they have a colored background. This would mean the entire top bar buttons would have that background. I think i would prefer a simple grey background for that bar,

Okay so I've made a few things:
The white glow is reduced and pause icon is different, but pay attention to the button base: you can see plain button (pause) and two with metalic noise (fast forward, train list)

How about this, now?

Why isn't the engine in real colors? Every button in TT had it's real colors.

In my opinion TT buttons with so many colours look too toylandish.

I think gray+light blue would be much better than gray+yellow, gray+red, gray+blue, gray+green etc.

The train was black on the picture, but if you want I can make version with some green accents like in TT menu...

It still doesn't look very... Impressive.

No offense, but it's just not to my liking :-)

How about just custom interface themes, or custom colours? I like the original interface as it is, and I would prefer to choose.

Well the plan currently is that you will be able to choose.

Why so huge? One thing that, in my opinion, is really great with the current TTD is the wery small and extremely handy interface. Many games tend to have huuge butons and i tend not to play those games...

Don't like butchering people but those buttons are...not the finest I have seen in some time to put it finely.

They are too big and I think you have to let go of that look; it just doesn't fit.
