Norwegian (NSB) Trainset for OpenTTD (Taster released)

Post by OzTrans »

The Norwegian Trainset (NSB Rolling Stock) has been developed initially for TTDPatch; but the good news is, there is also a separate version for OpenTTD (version 0.4.x) available. BTW, the version for TTDPatch is NOT compatible with OpenTTD.

The Taster-set contains 23 vehicles, including steam, diesel and electric engines, multiple unit passenger trains and passenger wagons spread nicely across all usage classes and years from 1920 to 2005 and beyond. It is intended for the Temperate and Arctic climates of 'Transport Tycoon Deluxe'. Together with the TTO freight wagons it will be playable stand alone with TTDPatch alpha 44+ or OpenTTD 0.4.x.

If you have any questions or problems regarding the OpenTTD version - post them here. But before you do - READ THAT MANUAL !!

Here it is ...

Do the freight waggons differ in TTO, TTD and OTTD?

Ack. Sorry, I didn't realize that TTO meant TT Original. I withdraw my question.

Hmm, cool that you are making an openttd version of your set :-)

Hmm, btw, does it support (or is it planning to) the newer newgrf support present in the openttd svn (nightlies), like powered wagons, shorter wagons, and the refit capacity callback?

I wonder what the patch version if your grf does in openttd if you remove the "requirement" checks, like for elrails and stuff.

But heh, all in all, cool stuff :-)

Actually, to be precise, it's my set :P
I was the one to take the guts and start it. So you can say that the team of today stands of atleast: me, ThorRune and OzTransLtd

And, it does already support it, sort of.. Atleast in TTDP, so I guess it's just to copy the code over to OTTD format to make it work there too.
But before I start talking to much of it, it's better that OzTrans can answer.

Also, the maintainer of the OTTD version will be OzTrans, because I nearly never post here. And since he is such a respective man around in this forum, I felt that he would do the work around here much better than I can

I don't know how it will be with news and stuff, don't even with graphics. But I hope it won't be much work to find a small solution.

Okey, enough talking from me.

Enjoy the set! :)
Best regards,
Jim

I said atleast. That doesn't mean you are excluded, off course you are in the set too. But then I also have to say that Singaporekid, Kruz, Jim Powers and DanMacK also are in the set.

Btw.. When do you want to draw something? :P

I don't know, usually I'm too busy with other things I prefer at that moment. Sometimes, however, I'm bored and start drawing. I don't know when these moments are...

I hope to draw some stuff during my holidays which started today :))

Your holiday started today? Congratulations! How many weeks do you have holidays then? I have 8 weeks holiday, and already 3 of them are soon gone..

Well, I'll be sitting somewhere hoping you will draw, there aren't much work left to do on this set, so you won't have that much to do anymore

And DanMacK is working on the steamer Type 63, I hope it will be finished soon, can't wait to see it!

I just wished I was in your shoes, and not bother going on vacation..
This is the most boring holiday I have ever had, I just hope it get's better when I get back home.
And ironically enough, since I left on vacation with my gf, if I didn't, my dad would take me to Spain or Portugal. Instead he went to Brazil with a friend of his.

I just wished I could turn back time for three weeks and say that I could go along with my father instead

Feel free to try NSBsetw.grf (windows version for TTDPatch) with your nightlies version of OpenTTD. There are no special checks, except for temperate and arctic climates. If you have any problems, let me know and I may be able to make adjustments.

If you look in the specifications sheet, you'll see that there are indeed earlier steam engines, as early as 1861, but they haven't been drawn yet.

However, someone will have to lift the secret how to code anything before January 1, 1920.

BTW, there seems to be a lot of randomness added or subtracted in OpenTTD in regard to the Year of Introduction. The Type 30a the first engine becoming available in the taster should actually turn up on June 30, 1920. E.g : when testing I had the CD66, a diesel freight engine introduced 2003 turning up in 1945 - anyone having any explanation ?

Well, since it seems like you like old trains, I want to ask you. Are there any trains you are missing? If it is, just post the train you feel need to be in the game + specs on it (if available) and I will think about it

Hmm.. Seems like OTTD is way more advanced than TTDP and therefore felt like introducing a train almost 60 years(!) before it should
