Influencing City growth

Post by Count Dastardly »

I made myself a sandbox scenario to try out Josef's patch: I've now got
a fairly complicated, if inefficient network (
http://www.impulse.org/TRT39.zip if anyone's interested ). What I'm
trying to work out now is what exactly makes cities grow: I've reset
the date in this game three times now and I can't seem to make the
city in the top right grow. It's got a frequent rail service, there's
goods coming in, there's a good coverage of bus depots, and
occasionally I fund some new buildings, but the city still refuses
to grow. What's the trick?

Spontaneously Exploding Maglevs

So why do the maglevs sometimes spontaneously explode when going into
depots?

Many thanks,

When you first start up in a city I find its a good idea to pay for new
buildings a few times...This gives the city a kick start and it grows like
crazy for a couple of years then settles down to a steady growth..

Hope it helps......

Er, beats me.. wouldn't mind seeing that, actually :)

I haven't tried loading the game without Josef's patch, but bearing in
mind that nearly all the trains are hideously long I doubt it'd even
load. I'll post an updated savegame.

Er, Doh. Some config settings for ttdpatch.cfg

// I guess this is the important one, there's
// over 100 trains
morevehicles 3

// curves and mountain settings for maglevs that
// actually work :)
mountains 34
curves 34

I think the rest are all at defaults.

Build and maintenance an efficient road network in and *around* the city.
This will keep the city expanding, without having to build roads for
themselves.
Another thing you could try, is elevating your rail network as much (not as
high!) as possible in the city, and tunneling any crossing roads.

How can tunneling those under those rails help??

No sign of any particular wierdness in my game, except when I reached
the upper money limit 0:) at which point I used the money cheat in
reverse to set it to 0. I updated the save game at the URL (
http://www.impulse.org/TRT39.zip ).. maybe Josef could have a quick look
if he's not too busy with all the stuff people usually do this time of
year? :) I'm quite pleased with the network in the game now, it's a
shame it effectively took three games to get there..
