I need a coder for my train

Post by DeletedUser21 »

I made this maglev vehicle, but I need someone that is willing to code it for me, it's just 1 train ATM, and it would speed up rail activities on very large maps in OTTD, and it could be fun for TTDpatch aswell ofcourse.

Thanks in advance

Not a bad looking vehicle, actually. However, one vehicle alone isn't a very useful GRF, because you can't know what vehicle ID to use while not messing anything up.

Maybe, with modifications, we might consider adding it to the US set, which doesn't have any maglevs currently, but should since there are several being planned, and this looks kind of like them. You're welcome to post in the US thread asking for an opinion.

okay, I will do that, thank you for your remarks!

Actually I was planning to make more of this type, but didn't know for sure.

I'll show it in the US set then. :D

Well, if you are interested, there are several maglevs being planned in the US; you could find out what they'd look like and model them, and we might well include them in the US set. There are at least:

Orlando area
LA - Las Vegas
Baltimore - Washington

I think there was talk of one in North Carolina (Research Triangle) and Texas's Golden Triangle. None of them are being built, although I think the LA - Las Vegas one is scheduled to begin construction soon.

USA will be the first to have Maglev network I believe. It has so much money and would be faster than plane travel coast to coast (including check in and check out times)

Mr. X, again you are basing your trainsprites on my Dutch SM90. Not only you did not credit me for that, also my SM90 has a bigger width as trains usually have. Therefore the sprite sizes are not completely as they normally should be. I warned you before about this. Again, read my tutorials for the real sizes or base your sprites upon trains that have the standard sizes :!:

do you mean network as in more than one line connected? because if I remember correctly there are plans in China to create a second line connected to the first.

Since the maglev is already a big success there, I think they'll be the first to have an actual network. They might be caught up later by other countries, but I think the head start of a working profitable maglev line is going to be too much for other countries to beat them to it.

on topic: I think that's an ok maglev train, although I would have to see it in game before I can really form an opinion.

China's maglev line is not profitable, because it's very expensive to buy a ticket and doesn't go anywhere. It doesn't make it to the current Shanghai city center; they built it to a new development area, which eventually will be built up, but really isn't yet. A taxi is cheaper anyway, though of course not quite as fast. The Chinese have been talking about building a maglev network. I'd be inclined to think they'll be first, because they don't have to worry about environmental concerns, NIMBYs, property purchasing, or construction costs (much). The US will never have a maglev network, though we might get the odd point-to-point line.
