Bugs i noticed

Post by bobingabout »

ok, its likely you already know about most of these bugs, but these are just some i noticed in the version of 0.4 i downloaded yesterday

Expanding towns can demolish industries.
Filenames (and other text) overlap the boxes.
End date doesn't work, but you can set the start date past the end date to get a game that gets stuck in 2090. if its an 8bit date, i recommend 1900-2150. both start and end dates, and include safety settings to not allow start to equal or pass end date. also, allow for a game that never ends, sometimes you don't want the game to end.

other features i think you should add, i dunno if this is in or not, but, easy editing of trains(and other vehicles), and addition of trains, so you can add trains from 1900-1950 and 2010 - 2150 if you wanted, aswell as editing the existing ones.
maybe some kind of ini file. i think i remember such a feature, but can't remember if it was openttd or ttdpatch. if it exists, just point me to some documentation about it please.
JPG SUX!!! USE PNG!!!
There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

Just disable the "Magic Bulldozer" cheat. ;)

Wasn't that fixed? a really low priority -cosmetic- bug. There are much more serious issues at this time.

Well... this was the intended behaviour anyway. Game stucks in 2090 because all vehicles would expire so you wouln'd be able to play afterwards... :)
IIRC, someone is working on a patch for this anyway.

You're looking for newgrf, probably...

On a sidenote: PLEASE, read the docs, check the existing topics, SEARCH.
is it so hard?

ok, i tried the blue intercity 125 thing, and it replaced the 125 with itself, and the passenger coach with its version, not what i wanted. i then tried the other intercity and it replaced the 125 with itself, and edited the quantity of mail it carries to 32 bags. better, but not exactly what i wanted. but its passanger coach i liked, the normal coaches are fine, but add it to the intercity, and they changed colour, that i like, thats 1 of the things i wanted. i wanted the intercity to be a seperate engine than the 125. i assume thats still possable, so, i supose newGRF is what i'm looking for.

but, how do i make them myself???

i tried dlownloading the GRF wizard, but it complains that the TTDPatch doesn't exist... any other software i can use to make my own? and any good tutorials?

PS, I'm from the CnC RA2:YR modding community, to say this is different is an understatement, plus tutorials are 10 times easier to find, and ten times more clearer than the ones i found for this... i even wrote a fair chunk of tutorials for YR modding myself.

so although i am a newb here, i am a master over there, all i need is time, and help.

Software: Notepad, grfcodec, and a competent image processing program or two, even if you don't draw (I use spriteedit and The GIMP). I also advise NFORenum (see .sig)
NFO tutorials: Well-nigh non-existant.
NFO format description: The TTDPatch wiki and newgrf.txt (same content, different formats)
It's anybody's guess which of the newgrf features work in OTTD; I've been unable to find any listing.

Be warned, NFO code is unlike any other language I've seen.

The majority of us NFO coders are willing to help those who are willing to learn. Mostly, you'll find us infesting the TTDPatch Graphics forum.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
Projects: NFORenum (download) | PlaneSet (Website) | grfcodec (download) | grfdebug.log parser
