Monthly Scenario Contest [developing]

What would you guys think of a monthly scenario contest. How it works:

A jury (existing of some specific people) will form an assignement (for example that it needs to be a toyland scenario). For one month everybody can join in by posting one scenario. The jury will judge the scenarios and announce a winner.

What to win?
I don't know. It is possible to make a website with all scenarios who won the contest and a total league table.

So what do you guys think of it?

We need more requirements than just "A Toyland Scenario" though, there should be a specific objective in mind, or a specific goal.

Perhaps an idea would be to, given a map of a real area, make a map of that in TTD, without using any other tools than the built-in scenario editor. (That is, no heightmap scenario generators.)

Well, that depends wether you want people to do everything by therselves, or if you want a good result. Heightmap-generated maps usually look very nice.

Of course. The "A Toyland Scenario" was just for example. It will be more detailed.

So if people are enthusiastic I need this:

A jury (which will specify the objective and judge the maps)
Participants (which will make maps (max. 1 per month per participant))
A website (which will list the current objective, the previous objectives, the winners and the scenarios (maybe also a league table))
A website coder (since it would be easy to have an easy to update website. For example a PHP-based one)

Well, any other ideas are welcome, of course

Purno, this sounds like a very good idea, if only because it will help us gain a crop of the finest scenarios made. ATM, it is kinda hard trawling through the savegames and scenarios thread.

Jim's thread is really well organised, thanks to Lakies linking-list, but again, thats just one persons contribution of scenarios. Getting others involved, would be really nice too.

I can't volunteer to be on the jury, but as an idea, perhaps have the jury change each month, so that people can have a turn making scenarios too.

But yes, good idea, good way to get some more good scenarios out there!

Hmm, reminds me of an idea I had back in July 2003, for a competition web site... I still have the basic back-end code for it, which became part of the Repository in the end. The player would specify a list of criteria for the games (eg, have at least £30,000,000 profit by 2020, have all trains making £25,000, have 85 road vehicles, etc), and the web site would check the saved game for all this data. Once the Repository is done with its current feature set, this could be an interesting future project for it, but I'll leave it for now... got too many open projects at the moment.

A jury

Ill be one of these, but I will be harsh yet fair. No scummy mods that let you build on the side of a hill with tracks going up, and yet having the train go across. Tracks need to be FULLY connected (Oh and the right type as well)

Well, I don't know how many people are intersted in being in the jury. If there are too many, I only want people who really want to be in the jury themselves. You sound not very enthusiastic, IMO, is that right? (btw, thx for your offer to help me)

I'm not surprised you got that impression but I would like to do it; it's just that if there are too many people (as you said) then I wouldn't mind giving someone else the chance because I don't have as much time on my hands as I'd like.
I think rotating the jury a bit would be a good idea, though.
