I swear, all the AIs must be BMW drivers... there's a queue out onto the main road to get into a truck depot, and a truck is coming up on the end of the queue, and swerves into the oncoming lane to overtake the queue and turn into the depot road (still on the wrong side) only to be met by a tram coming the other way. So they're stuck.
It's ridiculous, three trucks driving in a convoy... should be fine... except, the one in back triggers something in the ones in front, so they both stop and let him pass, and as he passes, the new one in the rear triggers it again, and they leapfrog down the road, constantly stopping and overtaking.

yeah, i was really surprised, and at the same time annoyed that vehicles dont chuck u-turns anymore, but will instantly flip around -and thus being on the wrong side of the road- move forward a bit then change lanes..
so when a tram is approaching a stop, they meet head on and.....stare at each other...
It worked soooo much better in TTD, vehicles would overtake if it made obvious sense (Leopard bus going 60 overtaking truck going 35 on a straight clear road) but they do it all the time, even when there's no need. They drive all over the road and get stuck, causing huge jams - I'd say half my jams are caused by a truck sideways across both lanes.

yeah.. i mean, he makes it that vehicles/trains do not stop instantly (realism), yet he dumps the u-turn vehicles did in TTD (realistic) for an instant spin-around (highly unrealistic).
at least if you have a tram and bus coming head-on, they dont crash and explode (that would seriously p*** me off).
Thank god they don't crash, my steel mill would be littered with wrecked trucks watching some of the stunts they do... remember I mentioned overtaking the queue to try and jump in ahead of the rest? I've seen someone try to jump the queue jumper!
And bus stopping on the wrong side of the road... well, would be nice if it was raining, I guess, even if you did wind up going the wrong way for a bit

What I think is really stupid is when vehicles overtake on one-way roads, the vehicle being overtaken slows down or stops. What a waste of time when there's two lanes to use on the one-way roads!
Yeah, I've had a line of three or more trucks 'leapfrogging' all the way down the motorway - it's infuriating. Surely the whole point of overtaking is because you can go that much faster than the one in front that you can easily pass them? This isn't driving school, we don't need the AI slowing down to make space between the vehicle in front (like when someone overtakes you on the motorway and then moves back into Lane 1, you ease up a bit to build the 2 seconds of space between your front and their arse)

yeah, reminds me of some pics on the net of crazy peeps who try to overtake some land-trains like that one 50m long for carrying coal nerves of steel methinks
ive stopped using trucks and busses, only for the over taking reasons/U-turns.. arg... i had a tram comming up to a bus stop, but the bus cut in front, and wanted to do a U-turn, but the tram was in the way... i only notice it when i looked to see what trams where bringing me money, and and that was 3 years after i added the tram line... so now i just use trams..
i also fine it off putting to see a truck stop in the middle of no-where just to find out 20seconds later, a slower truck is over taking, there-for as soon as it over takes, it stops to let the faster one overtake.. GRRRR
I tried a ro-ro set up for cattle lorries during a competition.
One way roads into and out the other side of depot. Set up worked but the overtaking was frustrating. Reminded me of leapfrog with one lorry overtaking then being overtaken..over and over. This seriously reduced the profitability of lorries and I believe applies to all road vehicles.
In the screen attached all those roads are mine.(some taken over from AI). It was the straight forward simple road that was the most profitable. Even so I couldnt win this objective without resorting to tricks of manipulating the station name position to maximise revenue.
I now only use a single lorry at my main railway stations in order to boost ratings and encourage production increases.
TTD busses were stupid at times, but this beats the sh*t out of everything

Yeah, it's brilliant - road vehicles are all but useless for transportation. In TTD, my road vehicles would carry goods from industries to the local railhead where a waiting train would whisk them to their destination. In Lomo, the trucks struggle to cope until you add so many you're guaranteed a traffic jam.
So, your only option becomes the railways, which take up far too much room and then if you connect that to your main network, I guarantee one of your express trains will wander into your industrial spur and get stuck...

I agree that this part of the game is bloody ridiculous and sometimes i see my trams heading the wrong way down the road and making everything unrealistic. Even if i decide i will build my trams onto land with no road present in the end roads appear underneath tracks anyway bringing the same issues to light, just at a later stage of play.
Regarding the Express train going to the industrial area, this never happens with me, simply as if i have freight and passenger on the same track with either spurring off, i decide to have electric passenger trains and diesel freight trains, therefore when the freight spurs off it is impossible for passenger to do the same as they are not compatible to do so.
But then this isnt easy in the early stages of the game when all is steam.
Something else i dislike regarding roads is the way that in my cities just before and after a station, roads are always built crossing my tracks making my trains sound the horn about a gazillion times before stopping at the station, then they sound the horn and do the same again when leaving. It wouldnt bother me so much if the town that built the roads ever put traffic on them, but seeing as there are no cars for them to worry about, why build the road onto my tracks? Each time i delete them, they come back too. GRRRRR. Why cant we have an option of a fence which blocks the line from being able to have a road built across it?
In my current Bristol Channel save, I have an oil truck practically doing donuts on a cul-de-sac, despite its destination being two streets away. I'm going to try and FRAPS capture it to make it my sig, as it's hilarious in how pathetic the AI is.
I've decided there is no pathfinding AI. I ordered the trucks to go from one part of the map to the other. The decided they were airplanes and tried to go straight across the nearest river... and then drove up and down the coastal road trying to find a way across (there is a way across, they just didn't use it)
And this is before they all try and overtake each other... a line of FOUR TRUCKS stopped at a give way line waited while a fifth jumped into the oncoming lane, overtook them all and turned onto the main road!
