newstations 0.3 - how to build long stations?

Post by gimli »

Hello,

I am using ttdpatch 2.0.1 alpha 46 and the newstations 0.3.
How do I build stations, that are longer than 7 sqares? Not all trains fit into a 7 squares short station, e.g. the ice3 fulltrain...

I would be glad for a hint. Thanks.

either build extra platforms on the end of the existing ones to extend them
or
use other stations where extra length is needed.

If I do so, I am not able to build a station composed of different station-objects... please correct me, if possible.

You probably won't be able to get exactly what you want as the station must stay rectangular at all times.
You'll just have to play about with what order you build the station parts in to get something like what you want.

Can't you click the +7 button, to make a longer station in the first place?

No, a lot of 0.3s (or maybe all?) have the +7 button shaded out (ie. not useable).

Wonder why? It shouldn't make any difference.

It does, because for each combination of length and number of platforms the .grf has to specify the station layout. Allowing +7 makes that rather unmanageable.

You can't just make it repeat? I mean do it such that
The front end is this way
The back end is that way
And the middle, repeated however many times is requires, is like so.

It's not that straightforward, but fear now, alpha 47 will probably have a solution.

Ah. Well, it's funny how the last 10 alphas or so have each contained eagerly-awaited improvements, whether new features or bugfixes. There haven't been any "minor" alphas in a long while.

Awww, pretty.

We really need a basic gravel station or somthing that can be built over, retaining the shape but just adding tiles.

I have a problem with 0.3. I dont appear to be able to use them in existing games. Even in ones where I had signal boxes before, these have reverted back to normal 1x1 stations. The pull down menus are greyed out.

I can use them fine in a new game. Is this how its meant to be? cos thats very annoying.
