After spending the better part of sunday with drawing the sprites, I am finally done. It turned out that 49 sprites were needed.
WOW

i know how that feels...... took me a damn 2-3 days to do 85 sprites (for the new GFX engine)

sucky job, but someones gotta do it, and its silently appreciated (or loudly depending on how much people like it)

i am looking forward to getting rid of those 4 other buttons.

dominik81 wrote:That was the main reason why I started coding autorail highlighting. :D As I said: with the patch there's no need for the tools 1-4 any more.
You'll need them for removing elements

No, the buttons 1-4 will not be removed of course. We have too many people used to the old ways. :)

lets make it an option in the patch configuration area.... LOL

the new GFX engine will most likely get rid of the buttons (i doubt it will hav them to start with, due to the layout system being proposed) but i am sure extra buttons could be added to give a similar system of piece by piece construction as we have now.

i personally want to see the landscaping tools put back on the toolbars, more buttons is fine by me

I am one who would not miss the old way of laying track. Remove the 1-4
buttons, if they become obsolete (as in: old way doing things when there are
new smarter ways).

And I must salute dominik81 for being the most innovative and evolve
friendly developer you deserve a medal, not only for this but for your input
on the "tool tips" and probably many more things.

I don't think that the masses or the shouters on this forum are the one's with
the best knowledge in "game solutions". Everyone seems to diss everything
that would move away from how the original TTDX where, why don't they
play the old game then?

I don't want a flame war, just hoping that there will be a reform towards
simplicity.

It maybe true that the whole GUI would become simpler by removing those 4 buttons, but the can be very handy when removing single pieces of track, i.e. in the entrance area of a station. I have made the experience of always deleting the wrong piece of track when using the autorail tool, but maybe that's just because I'm dumb...

I wouldn't personally mind the butons going as long as the 1-4 hotkeys stays.

And i agree with Pilatus, dominik is the dev vith the most common sense

it is also virtually impossible to put down one exact piece of rail with the autorail tool.

I'm happy to announce, that autorail highlighting has made it's way into the SVN a few minutes ago.

However, I'm not fully satisfied with my sprites yet. Especially those in horizontal direction for very steep slopes (see screenshots) are pretty sucky. That's why I'm again appealing to you to help me with those. The new grf file autorail.grf will be in the next nightly and you can try yourself to make better sprites for it. Contributions are very welcome. :)
