whats the best thing about model trains?
> speed?
> detail
> acceleration (some trains)
> lights
> special feutures like tilting (on the new bachmann Virgin Vouager)

i think lights, detail and special fetures are the key things.
what about all you lot?

i'd say bachmann's the best for quality and detail, but not for price.
best if your on a budget, or dont want to spend A LOT is hornby (depends on shops though).
for mega cheap-ness, get a 'Thomas The Tank Engine' set! only kiddin! :P
or if you feel you want to be different, theres always Breo (cant spell it) the little cheap wooden things! :P

the amount of fun i had with them when i was little.
o well, time to move on! electrified has been with me for a long time,
BUT, i have never made a proper set. i had pinned down track with sidings, a turntable and a single oval once, but that was boring.
could be an interesting weekend job! :D

any one here got a pinned down layout? (scenary or not. i mean both types)

Good to see young model railway fans!

I started with my model railway when i was 13. The old plant still exists, but i 'll build a more realistic looking in the 30m² attic this year. It's a very expensive project...

Here you can see a few pics of my old model plant:
