Presignals?
Presignals?
Yes, I RTFM about them and all that, and I know how they are supposed to work.. My only problem is creating them. They are enabled(extrapresignals are enabled too) from my TTDPatch config, but I just can't figure out how to build them! Been studying how to build networks.. I've always used point-to-point before
I thought it worked well. Anyway.. I got my small network going, but the stations get stuck because trains try to get to the same line all the time. Presignals direct them to empty ones, right?

No, two-way signals do that.
If a train comes to a junction, where there are two or more possible exits it can use, for example, at a station, then it will always choose the fastest route by taking a one-way signal. If, however, there are any two-way signals on the tracks (like at a station, you always put down two-way signals so trains can go in and come back out). A train will always pick a green signal if possible when confronted with two-two way signals.
Have a look at the screenie below. The station is a ro-ro, where trains all come in one way, and leave another. The "in" tracks at the north end of the station are all two-way signals, so trains will take a green signal where possible.
Pre-signals only stop a train entering a block where there are no green two-way signals. So, if there was a train on every track in my station, the pre-signal would be red as well as all the tracks going into the station.

I think you'd find these useful:

I think that's not what he was asking about.
DjMike:
you build them by selecting signal building, holding the CTRL key and building them over existing signals. they will then cycle through {entrance, exit, combo, normal} signals.
or if you have autopresignals on,
the game automatically replaces normal signals with presignals whenever a train enters a block that has a one-way signal going into a junction, and there are several two-way signalled exits. keep in mind that this does not happen until a train actually uses the signal block.

Thanks for those tips, yes, but my problem was as I said the actual building of those signals. I can click ctrl or shift or alt of anything as much as I like on the signals, they never change to presignals.. Although, when I Ctrl-LClick a signal 3 times, it goes perma-red for no reason until I ctrl-lclick again.. Dont know why.
I think you're missing the grf file with the signals in it.
did you download the necessary grf files from the ttdpatch site? (canals, slopes, signals etc)

Try the "New Graphics" Section, and try re-reading the manual.

Downloading the New Graphics pack worked
Thanks! I see the signals before my stations changed on their own, nice. Now just to figure the rest of this networking mumbo-jumbo..
My junctions are such a mess...
Oh and how do I take a screenshot? Pressing Prt Scr button and pasting to paint just gives a black screen.

Oh ok, thanks. Hmm, I seem to be good at running into problems.. I downloaded the ttdpatch configurator thingie and just checked what stuff there was, didn't really change much, but after loading a game I notice I'm not gaining any cash.. I open a station and it says "1782 tons of wood [En-Route from X-Station]"- Whats up with that? I dont get any cash when trains drop of their cargo and it doesn't go into factories either(no goods produced)

If you want to post a screenie to the forums though, I would suggest saving the screenshot as a *.png file. Don't just re-name the filename, actually do a "save-as".
