Use other games models?

Post by Purno »

I don't know much about making Loco graphics, but I've heard you make 3D models to render the 2D sprites.

I know a game, Trainz, where ppl make there own trains too, like TT and Loco. They are using 3D models (very detailed) and I wonder, if those could be used for Loco too?

And there are probably other games too...

Of course. Just make them the right size, angle, lighting. And it'll turn out right.

I know, for example for the NL set, ppl have made the sprinter, the 6400 Dloc, and lots of other things (you can take a look at http://www.trainz.nl).

On the website of Trainz (http://www.virtualtrainz.com) you can see the download section to see what has been made (I don't know if you need to login)

Yes, of course. :) But you need to have the original model in order to render it, and also they need quite a lot of work to look good in locomotion (resizing, retexturing, and details removed or exaggerated).
