Many countries don't have 3rd Rail like England, Germany and Finland for example got their third rail covered, and looks A LOT diffrent from Locos(think of a white box with few supports connecting it to the ground).

Yes but I am think more along the lines of a proper underground train not the network it runs on.

Hmph, thing is, sub-surface underground stock can run on the same tracks as a normal train, I remember as a kid thinking it bizarre to have a (district line) train pull away from the platform and then an NSE train pulled up. Hence I just use the really old EMU (the 1920 model) for my underground trains.

Deep level trains, now, that could be done if you maybe haxx0red the trams a bit to allow for third rails, I know tube trains aren't that much smaller but we've all agreed the normal trains in LoMo are too big anyway.

Are you talking about this project I was creating for someone, and never finished?

Or this one?

Unfortuately, it doesn't come with the "MIND THE GAP" annoucements or "Please Stand clear of the doors"! ;) Two of everyones favorite annoucments from LT! :D

(BTW, I got a feeling that the "Trainzers" have infested another forum! Well, the Uk Trainz group anyway!)

You could always make 'Mind the Gap' the train's horn sound... until I realize it'll play that when it moves away from signals as well. D'oh!

Strictly speaking, you'd need an additional trackmod - "4th rail". The Island Line stuff was modified to run without the 4th rail, I believe. For thsoe that don't know how it works (i.e. you missed the riveting 3rd rail thread), the fourth rail is a return line which runs dead-centre between the running rails.

London Underground has three types of line other than the DLR:

* Tube: the tight round thingies with just enough room for 9-foot tall trains to crawl through. Bakerloo, Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and Waterloo & City lines operate with tube stock.

* Sub-surface: these don't go too deep, and the underground sections are bog-standard cut-and-cover tunnels. Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines are sub-surface lines. Around 12' tall, not much shorter than standard C-gauge stock for the mainline network.

* Surface: this is basically the East London Line, or the small overground stretch of it operated by LUL using Metropolitan line sub-surface A stock.

So, we need some Tube stock if we're going to have something which is actually different.

a great idea for the game

hey alistairgrew:

they would look great in the game as the new subway trains and tracks also. the second looks the best. the first one can be used during the 1950's to 1970's. there are many new designs for subway trains now.

thank you

Not to worry, netherless. The texture for the second one is stuck on a hard drive on a computer, that I cannot gain access to, well the affected folder anyway.

Of interest, not underground, but I am not sure if you would call it a tram, or a train. I think it can be either, because I designed them to operate on the main line, and a tramway, have a look at my Avatar, to see what I mean! :)

....and the 1972 MkII (bakerloo line) stock, uses the same tracks as Silverlinks Class 313 units! :)
Not forgetting that 313's are STRICTLY 3rd rail, and all LUL trains are STRICTLY 4th rail!

it could be rendered for locomotion easily, just that it would be wise to have a script to convert the output files to right palette.
