Guidelines for posting new topics

Post by orudge »

Hi everyone,

I've had a few requests for me to post a topic like this, so I'd like to ask people, when posting a new topic here, to use a prefix relating to what the topic is about. For example:

[Request]
[Developing]
[Finished]
[Discussion]

and so on. A lot of you already do this - this is useful as it makes the forum easier to navigate if you're looking for a specific thing. If you've already posted a topic without a prefix, then it wouldn't hurt to edit it to indicate the current status.

Thanks very much. :)

i think Request Tag needs to be more specialised

[TREQUEST] = Train Request
[TMREQUEST] = Tram Request
[RVREQUEST] = Road Vehicle Request
[AREQUEST] = Airplane Request
[SREQUEST] = Ship Request

also instead of developing i suggest these Tags

[Train Wip] = Train Work In progress thread
[RV Wip] = Road Vehicle Work in progress thread
[Tram Wip] = tram Work in progress thread
[Ship Wip] = Ship Work In progress thread
[Airplane Wip] = Airplane Work In progress thread

You dont have to make it so deficult, just the

[REQUEST]
[WIP]

Etc, the topictitel will cover it al

Example:

[REQUEST] Train - EMU 250 electric
[WIP] Monorail

Exactly, the forum rules ask you to use clear topic titles too, together with the word between [] it should be clear enough. No need for confusion if we stick to this.

Well my tags are a little shorter on Request part.

Just use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid)

[REQUEST]
[WIP]
[RELEASE]
[DICUSION]

With those tags it will work.

Dont make it to confusing for people. You can see what the poster is requesting at the topictitel and in the post.

(Maybe some rules for making a startpost for e.g. de [REQUEST] Like this:

- Give informatie where it is in use (England, The Netherlands etc.)
- Give photo`s or bleuprints
- Specifications (Speed, Type of driving, Diesel, Overhead Wires, 3rd rail)
- Other usefull stuff.

Seems to me a better idea. (This type of "tagging" is also used on i tink the biggest Computer related Forum of the Netherlands (Gathering of Tweakers) So i think that will work. :)

And i have got an other idea: To keep all the Releases in 1 central topic wich will be mentained by the forummoderaters. (! big posts with releases sorted in The folowing types:

- Trains
- Trucks
- Buses
- Trams
- Aircraft
- Ships
- Scenario
- Modifications (Monorial stuff and marsproject)
- Game editors (Locotools, Locotool frontend etc)

Akalamanaia your tags would just be confusing as hell if you haven't read this topic.

I have changed the titles of all topics on the first page so they have tags.

I hope I did everything right :roll:
And if I didn't then the topic creator can fix it himself :)

With the amount of traffic being generated here (and bound to rise), I would think it easier to start breaking the various posts into their own sub forums - something like:

Locomotion Graphics, Modifications & Tools
- Completed Mods
- Physics & Game Code
----------------------------------
- Air Transportation
- Buildings & Industries
- Rail & Trackside Objects
- Trainsets & Rollingstock

...and leave the requests and other fodd here in the main section. :)

I'm not actually sure if PHPbb supports subforums without a mod...

Surely 2.2 will though :roll:

I personally don't agree with "requests"
If there's somebody wanting any vehicle, may this person bring useful information, not just the name of the vehicle. Coding and drawing sprites is not the only work requiered, you can apport useful information and documentation.

Most requesters just come and say "I'd like the X in the game (Locomotion or TTD) because it is cool, and I see it everyday in my city"
I just say that nobody "requests" but "start a project" by gathering information, graphics, photos, or offer to code what they'd like to see in the game.

I agree. I think there has been so many requests that people are thinking 'Oh no. Not another one'. :x
I think that if it feels like people are 'helping' rather than doing the whole lot more would get done.

Just my thoughts :roll:

Well, consider the dual runway request. If that wasn't requested, there is little chance of it have being made this fast. If the person who thought of it tried to sort it out, then they may not of got patchman to work on it straight away.. and i may of not helped at all.

So, requests can be good. And until Owen decides to do something, they'll stay here.

I don't want them to be forbidden, or erased. I just want the people to have a bit of maturity, and don't come like children, asking. Whoever wants something, don't limit to ask and sit down until somebody does all the work and brings the fancy graphics. Let's collaborate with this, because it's a game

I agree about the dual runway idea needing to be requested.
If you don't ask you don't get,right? :roll:
I don't really know what I'm trying to say :oops:
I'll shut up, except that I agree with both of you. :wink:
