Can anyone who beat this scenario tell me how?
Them AI just cram airports around big cities and I watch one comp ballooned his performance rating from 0 to 80 in 3 years. I am struggingling at 30%. I've built many trams in cities and metropolis, but earnings pale in comparison to AI's hordes of concorde. What should I do?

Three words: underground, passengers, trains.Plutoburn wrote:Can anyone who beat this scenario tell me how?

Had a 99.9 rating with it. Ofcouse you have to get the money above ground to get underground.
I started with some massive tram networks in the largest cities. They quickly made quite a lot of money, after that I made some of the simpler industry routes on the map I got. When the money were really rolling in, I then started making long underground passenger routes, and some of the more advanced industry routes. (Ones involving climbing steep mountains or transporting across the map, and such.)
Before I won the map, I was struggling around the 90% against the only AI company with better rating than me. One month I was lucky and the AI's rating dropped while mine rose, and I got on top and as such won
The next month I was number 2 again.

or, if u are really that patient, wait until Concorde becomes obsolete in 2003...

Sonofa. I have been resetting this scenario so many times. The wording makes it sound like when I reach 60% performance I must be the number one company. Well back to the drawing board on that one again. I think I have like 2 or 3 more Medium scenarios left before I move on to the Hard scenarios.
Thank you all for the info, it's exactly what I was looking for.

At the time i played Aerophobia, i wasn't that good in tactics.
I had 100% but several A.I. also.
It took me many years, till suddenly the A.I. dropped under 100%, and i won.
If this happens to you, then demolish some large buildings around an enemy airport, so that his profits run down.

Yes - good advice Chevvy. Kill the AI airports.
One end of an AI air route would supply the goods while the other the demand. So killing the big buildings at the demand end was the trick. As you demolish add a piece of track to vacant land. The town cannot rebuild on that plot. And for good measure rip up all nearby roads...the town can only build next to a road.
Good luck Valthun

I comleted this by just keeping going, eventually, I got to 100% and it said I won, even though the AI was there too. And this was in 2001, just before the concrde goes bye bye

Triangleman: Seldom, as the AI either builds three airports in the same town, or builds two adjacent airports and has the Concorde flying between them (with its 250 seats!)
I modded the scenario to remove the Concorde, but the AI just builds fleets of 707s instead.

Hi
Rather than worry about the Ai and its Airports..just go all out yourself for the 60% rating.
Build long fast passenger routes between big towns. Pause the game, plan, then build as fast as you can. Use the 'build whilst paused' bug (unless you have patched your game). When your stations are in place expand their catchment area with bus stops so more passengers are available for your fast trains.
Times of a year and less with only 4 to 7 trains are possible. Good luck

hi, new to the forum.
bought Locomotion after years of missing Transport Tycoon (excellent game).
Been plaing it for about a week now and on this scenario:
problem I am having is that i build either Iron ore, or more recently Coal trains (2) to steel works, but even though it get about £85,000 from each load, and quite obviously am making a profit (+£744,000 end of year profit after running costs etc) at the end of the year (i keep decreasing the loan when cash becomes available so payments decrease), i always become bankrupt!!! Why is this? Is there a bug in the game (i dont have any patch downloaded as i just got the game BTW)...
some help if you dont mind
- thanks Andy

Having never played the scenario, i can't help... but I will move this topic to the problems area where it might attract a little more help... also - the people above have suggested things like building underground which can help...

re: underground. I saw that too, but dont understand as its VERY VERY expensive to build underground!? i dont see how this would help unless i have my wires crossed

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Sorry to bring up this thread again, but I need some place and people to tell about my hard time finishing Aerophobia
.
Naive as I was, I thought, I had all the time of the world to achieve my 60% rating and didn't know I had to be no1 as well
. Somehow the scenario instructions lose clearity in their translation to German.
I started with heaps of coal deliveries to have some financial background for the rather expensive routes. After getting my rating up to 60% in 1990 or so there was one AI opponent at 90% and rising, so I knew I had to challenge his airports in order to win. Being fair, I didn't start demolishing builings around them, but placed train station all around them to take away his passengers. I worked quite well until 85%, but in the meantime the AI went up to 100, and seemed to be very comfortable with staying there *g*.
To make a long story short... in the end the clou was to have REALLY long underground passenger routes with the fastest trains available running on them. Doing that, I got my 100% rating, won the scenario, sweared to myself to leave the game alone for at least one day, and now fear the hard and expert scenarios coming up next
. This one certainly was hell on earth... at least to me.
Thanks for listening

Re: Aerophobia
I've just got back to playing this after several years away, and came back here because I'm stuck on this scenario.
It seems to me that to win this without resorting to 'spoiling' tactics against your opponents, you have to rely on a getting a decent randomly generated landscape that helps you more than it helps the airport builders.
On the same landscape I've tried and failed with 2 tactics so far. First I went for a passenger/mail only route and was doing quite well but eventually got overtaken when I was on 40%ish, and couldn't catch up and get past one opponent on 100%. I gave up in May 2003 when my rating was 91%, now I just read about the Concordes going obsolete, and 6 months later I've won it.
If only I'd known that before I began the 2nd time on the same map. I' avoided building anything in the towns/cities/metropolises and concentrated on out of town coal and lumber runs, to try and slow down the growth of the passenger airport catchment areas. This worked up to a point, but again I've was overtaken when I was around 40%.
The map I'm using is VERY difficult. There are very few short commerce runs, with coal, iron and lumber way up high in the hills.
