US Set available [Trains v0.87.4d released 27 April 2008]

This has been said before but... yes he could, but it would double the amount of sprites needed and likely go over the sprite limit.Arathorn wrote:Can't you make the ETD a property of the last wagon?
I thought that's what happens with the lights of the DBset wagons.
Or is my memory deceiving me? I haven't played the DBset for a while.
True, but ordinarily trains don't fit EXACTLY into the platform, at least not freight trains.

Oracle, we need to enable the log flatcars in the Arctic climate. Yes, yes, I know the wood all goes to a papermill where they'd rather have woodchips, but it's bizarre to have a "North Woods" sort of game and not have log cars rolling around. Please.
Also, the gondolas aren't right. A gondola shouldn't carry food, or if it does, we need a better graphic for it. And the gondolas now can carry goods, because uzurpator drew a "crate" graphic for it (it's on my tracking site), but you haven't coded them to be refittable to that yet. At least not in the Arctic.

Maybe. It's hardly much work but I just can't get round to it. It is on my (rapidly-lengthening) todo list though.krtaylor wrote:Oracle, we need to enable the log flatcars in the Arctic climate. Whoops; I think it's supposed to be refittable to goods instead of food - I think both problems are the same one.krtaylor wrote:Also, the gondolas aren't right. Right now, it's not refittable at all.

It's refittable in Temperate, to steel, wood and goods. But you're right, it's not elsewhere - the standard cargo should just be goods.

And it should carry woods also in the Arctic and Tropic.

May I ask why?
The wood refit in temperate is for human use only for paper mills.
That's not needed in Arctic and Tropical because there is only one possible destination for wood.

Variety of course. Why shouldn't you be able to have a mixed wood train, with wood in the big green hoppers, gondolas, and log cars? Same cargo, but more graphic variety. Or am I missing something here?

We haven't got what I think you're referring to as "woodchip gondolas" yet - I didn't like the graphics enough to include them. All we have is Dan's large green cars and log cars. If you've played tropical then you'll know that you buy "Wood Trucks" which are randomly either log cars or green "gondolas", using the wood truck ID. So there is variety, and that's all I'm proposing for Arctic. Temperate can stay as it currently is.

OK, that's fine. So the actual "gondola" listing can't be converted to carry wood, but the actual cars are there, listed separately. I have no problem with that.
There is one other type of woodcar that was drawn but never included. I don't know why not, and I'd like to see it. Here it is:

OK... a few clarifications.
That Big green thing IS a woodchip gondola. I've got a brown version in the works as well. So if you want to refit the gon to carry wood, it should be that (Only post-1955 I'd say)
The other car that krtaylor referred to was AaronP's Pulpwood flat. I drew a set of sprites that has 4 loading stages and a slightly more prototypical sprite. Below is my additional sprite.
I'd suggest the following scheme for wood traffic in arctic (and Temperate)
1921-1955 =>Log cars and Pulpwood flats
1955-Pres =>Woodchip Gondolas, Pulpwood flats and Log cars.

Not listed separately. Please play tropical and it will work like that!krtaylor wrote:OK, that's fine. So the actual "gondola" listing can't be converted to carry wood, but the actual cars are there, listed separately.

Yes, my mistake. Post 1955 can't be done - the patch isn't that complex (yetDanMacK wrote:That Big green thing IS a woodchip gondola. I've got a brown version in the works as well. So if you want to refit the gon to carry wood, it should be that (Only post-1955 I'd say)

I'm afraid I don't like the look of your modified pulpwood flat any more than the original, Dan - it just looks the wrong colour and doesn't seem "realistic" enough to fit into the game.

I do like Dan's pulpwood flat, and we need one like it. I understand your complaint though, Oracle, I don't much like the color. What color are those things usually? I'd say maybe rusty orange. The metal parts of the car need more detail. The cargo is fine as it is, I think.

You name it, there's a colour for it. I've seen pulpwood flats in blue, white, green, yellow, orange, red... it's limitless. The graphic needs work, esp. in the empty diagonals. I do think we should have some though (I'll be drawing some for the CanSet)
Will modify them shortly.

I would imagine that the Canadian set would share many of the traincars as the US set has, and vice versa, since they operate more or less interchangeably and always have. Not the passenger, but certainly the freight.

Two bugs, Oracle:
1. Stainless steel cars are supposed to be available in 1940. No arguments here, the old heavyweights don't match the new engines. Of course you'll likely have plenty of old heavyweights around for long after 1940, but you shouldn't get any new ones after that.
2. Very aggravating refitting bug. The reefers come with capacity 30 food, but if you refit them to food (which you shouldn't be able to do anyway), they wind up holding only 7. Bad. I ran into this because I regularly mix reefers with tankers in food trains, and of course you have to refit the tankers to carry food instead of petroleum, and generally I just do the whole train at once since it shouldn't hurt anything. But it does.
BTW, do we have any news on multiplying operating cost for MUs?
