Transportation Contest

Okay, I made a scenario so we can take a contest. Everyone that's interested can join.



1. Description

In the center of a flat map is Purnoville. A big city. At the edges of the map are farms, iron ore mines, oil wells, oil rigs and forests. Nearby Purnoville lays Purnoville Industrial Zone: A factory, a sawmill and a oil refinery. On the other side of Purnoville is a steel mill located. At the edge of the map are lots of small cities.



2. Goals

This contest has two goals.
- Transport as many goods monthly as you can to Purnoville
- Transport as many passengers monthly as you can from Purnoville
These two values are visible in the town window if you've patch installed (and the correct switch turned on).



3. Rules

You may not use any other factories, ore refineries, sawmills and steel mills than the ones built in in the scenario (so you may not use the ones that randomly appear). You may not use TTD Alter, because it can increase the capacity or speed of cargo carriages, trucks, ships and airplanes. You may use every cheat, graphics set, switch you want, as long as it doesn't affect the capacity or speed values extremly.



4. The challenge

Build a efficient transportation network. You don't have to build realistic junctions, but they need to be efficient.



5. How to compete

Download the scenario and install it. Play it! And when you think you've reached the highest possible monthly transportation at Purnoville, save your game and take a screenshot of the town window. Post both the savegame and the screenshot at the forum. The screenshot is to quickly and easily see what your 'score' is. The save game is to check if the screenshot is correct. Because some people might try to edit the screenshot.

I think it'd be wise to specify town growth settings if passengers need to be transported.

The town window shows the population too so you can take a percentage.

Maybe percentage compared to the trains income? So if all trains in the line make 1 000 000 a year, and 88% is transported, we get a rating number of 880 000. No, this ain't complex! Just a more reliable way of finding out success than just a percentage (you could keep the town small and transport everyone for 100%...)

Couple of points. not sure if it's supposed to be like this:

The management part of the game is a little messed up.
i.e. "100% owned by cannot move stuff etc".

plus it seems to think that the company owns an oil platform station (and thus has a value of 120k).


Oh, and a dumb question. where are we supposed to transport the passengers to? Or doesn't that matter? (i.e. back to purnoville, or oil platforms). our discretion?

I can't play it!

I can do stuff. but the second i un-pause the game, the game completely ignores my mouse.
Never happened to any other ttd games before.

using the patch, alpha28. windows version.

I've tried saving a copy of the game before i unpause it, then loading that. same thing.

Any ideas as to what it is?

ehmm... well I have another patch version. something with 20 or 21 in it's name, maybe that causes some problems???
