slowdown
im experiencing slowdown since ive installed the latest ottd and i cant figure out why...
i have it on two machines and one works fine, no slowdowns or probs yet.
on my laptop, where ttd needs to be all the time becuase its sucha great laptop game, it slows down to the point that it gets annoying to try and build anything, and then suddenly, smooth as silk again.
got a p4 2.2g w256meg... no other programs running, im serious, nothing but system stuff... and its a clean install of xp pro.
got any pointers on what i sohuld look for?

If its a fresh install of xp check that you got all the right drivers installed,
Graphics, Chipset, Ide, Sound. And 256Mb is not that much ram for an xp
machine, maybee try installing a program like cacheman (http://www.outertech.com)
and set their lowmem optimizations.
Only suggestions, i hope you get it running without the slowdowns

Are you using the latest svn or the release version (0.3.2.1), it could be a bug
in the svn, as i am running openttd (0.3.2.1) on my box both under linux and
windows and also on my girlfriends machine and we get no slowdowns at all.
Thats all i can think of atm. Hope it helps.

Yes, I got the same bug too. It seems somehow connected to the train window(s) being open. Because if I have them closed, I don't get this bug.

oh
i found it, it seems like i accidentally messed up my config file, i was fooling around and noticed that the date for the color newspapers was like 1900000090 so i looked and i had the force_full_redraw on, after i corrected this, the game runs smooth.
Re: oh
It's something else. I have force_full_redraw=false, and I get it too.norfolksouthern37 wrote:i found it, it seems like i accidentally messed up my config file, i was fooling around and noticed that the date for the color newspapers was like 1900000090 so i looked and i had the force_full_redraw on, after i corrected this, the game runs smooth.
I found it last night at 3am to be the code that switches the train window between 'refit button' and 'turn around' button. When that is disabled, the 100% CPU program is solved

I think you had an oldstyle newspaperdate.norfolksouthern37 wrote:what casued the newpaper date to go into the 199999999990 range???
There are 2 types of dates. 1 normal dates, as we know it, and 2 Transport Tycoon dates.
For example: TTD: 20000 is Normal: 1975 jan 23 (something like that).
In earlier versions, dates were set using TTD dates, but that changed. But if you had in you .cfg file, a TTD date, then it got screwed up, hence 199999999990
