neither of the versions starts on my Win98SE

Post by boldo »

I've installed the game correctly (I think so), it recoginsed the Win version of TTD and copied the needed graphical files to it.

If I would like to start the game, I get immediately and always the same error: Serious fault condition... :(

What is wrong? I tried a lot of versions, eg: 0.3.0, 0.3.1, 0.3.2., 0.3.2.11
always the same.
The error might be in my Windows 98SE I think.

Thanks for any idea.

I have Win98SE too and OpenTTD doesn't work. When I try to start the game I get an error message immediately.

What version of DirectX do you have? What happens if you run ttd -m win32 or ttd -m null?

works with parameters

OK with both parameters. Anyway I have installed DirectX 8.1 but no change. But with parameters ok, thank you!

I'm not using Windows, but isn't it possible to make the installer check for the DirectX version and change the desktop link accordingly?

It's the DirectMusic driver then that seems to be having trouble with Windows 9x. I may do some experimentation with Win98 and the DMusic driver sometime after my exams.
