Network-Game
If I start a 2-Player Game on 98SE(Host) and 95B(Client) the game slows down imediately if the conection stands.
You cannot move the mouse(Well, you can, but it´s an inplayable LAAAG!)
What must i do that i´m able to play in network?
1-Player works perfectly in normal speed.

Windows 95 is known to be extremely flaky when it comes to any kind of networking, especially between different operating systems. Windows 98 is a quantum leap forward in networking compatibility, so I'd recommend installing it on your first computer if you can get ahold of it; you have the system specs to do so.
Aside from that, you could try a null-modem cable connection rather than going through a LAN. They're pretty cheap these days.

How many boards would the Mongols hoard if the Mongol hordes got bored?
Update to the latest DirectX version on both computers. That seems to help quite a bit. (At least, it did for me.)

Do you think this will slow down the Computer too much??Windows 98 is a quantum leap forward in networking compatibility, so I'd recommend installing it on your first computer if you can get ahold of it; you have the system specs to do so.
The result will be a big hole in the wall(wand).Aside from that, you could try a null-modem cable connection rather than going through a LAN. They're pretty cheap these days.
W95 doesn´t support DX9Update to the latest DirectX version on both computers. That seems to help quite a bit. (At least, it did for me.)
Exactly. That's why it's so flakey.W95 doesn´t support DX9

Lessee...Do you think this will slow down the Computer too much??
Processor Minimum: 486DX2 @ 66MHz
Processor Recommended: Pentium, Pentium MMX, or Pentium II
Your Processor: Pentium MMX
<check>
Memory Minimum: 16MB
Memory Recommended: 32MB
Your Memory: 48MB
<check>
Hard Disk Space Minimum: 225MB
Hard Disk Space Recommended: 500MB maximum
Your Hard Disk Space: 2GB

And you're okay on video so long as you have something that can go to 16 million colors, with 256 colors being the bare minimum. I'd say you "check" out for installing Windows 98.

Maybe I should have phrased it as: update to the latest version of DirectX that you can (DirectX 8 in your case). It also wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure both computers have the same version running. I have a 1 GHz Athlon running XP and a 300 MHz PII running Windows 98 and updating the 98 system to DX8 speeded up my multiplayer significantly.pETe! wrote:W95 doesn´t support DX9Oracle wrote:Update to the latest DirectX version on both computers. You are running the Windows version of TTD & TTDPatch though, I take it? What I've been saying only applies to the Windows version. I can't help with the DOS one.
(@Sokko: I doubt upgrading to W98 would do anything much. But maybe I'm wrong.)

Trust me when I say this has tons of personal experience backing it up. I learned the hard way how crappy W95 is with networking, and I greatly sympathize with anyone trying to do so.Windows 98 is a quantum leap forward in networking compatibility
Oh yeah, and do what Oracle says. Having the latest version of DirectX has been known to solve many problems.

Do you think that network work stable if i use DOS-Version and if i doen´t upgarde to 98?
Well, it rans realy slower than 95, but it several time ago, i cannot remember if it has effect my games.
Well, the PC has the min. givens for ME too, but ME would slow down it very.
So it id checked for minimum, but it isn´t the same perfomance.
Network works perfectly for me at the moment.
Well, i use only VNC and fileSharing (freigabe)

Are you using the latest alpha of the patch?
Download it from http://www.ttdpatch.net/src/ if you aren't. The stability of multiplayer is greatly improved in these versions.

Sinaasappel and me did some extensive TTD testing over a lan, and came up with the following.
2 player works fine as long as:
you turn off the features flagged as non-multiplayer by the wiki
you turn off the features flagged as possibly not working by the wiki
you use the IPX protocol
you have music off (no idea if this actually helps, but we didn't have any and we didn't have ANY problems)
you are on a LAN with ping < 10 ms
we had miscmod 8192 on
