Auz Farming Industry Set

I started working on a test version of my farming industry set. Previous versions had a few bugs so basically starting a new set.

   Some of my ideas

Plan to set it up similar to how things are hear in Australia.

Farmers grow the grain and take it to the silos and sell it to a company called Grain Corp. Grain Corp than find Flour Mills, Brewerys and other countries who want the different types of grain. So the Farmer will grow Grain take to silos. Here it will become Wheat, Oats, Barley, and other grains for transport to flour mill, the Brewery and to a Bulk Terminal for export.

Also working on livestock. Farmers used to take their livestock to a Sales Yard. Here Abattoirs (meat works) would action for them and famers would also buy new breeding stock. I amd experimenting having Cattle, Sheep and Pigs as separate cargos to take from farms to the Sale Yards. From here need another name (maybe Beef, Mutton, Hogs) to be taken to Abattoirs and to Bulk Terminals for export. Also like to find a name so send back to the farms (maybe Calf, Lamb, Piglets) as new breeding stock. Not sure if I can get that idea to work but shall see what happens.

Maybe take farm produce such as Fruit and Vegetable to Markets (wholesale) where it is than sold to shops (retail).

An idea that 3iff had with his SPI Industry set many years ago was to take workers to Industries and bring them home again. There was also a Industry set that had YETY to do the same so I hope do something similar. Will pinch the code from Quast65 and my OTIS set and see what I can do.

No idea how long this will take me as getting old and slowing down. Spending less and less time at the computer these days.

Cheers all

Auz Farming Industry Set

Subject: I added Electricity as a cargo to the industry set.

Back in 2017 Supercheese experimented on electricity using the overheads of railway lines. He gave me permission way back then to try and continue with this idea but kept getting side tracked.

So I have another look at it on days when health allows. I can create a sperate grf game for stations for cargos to load and unload. Just bridges and tunnels to cross rivers, roads and railway lines a probelm at the moment. Also signalling a issue too but the electricity and mail travel very fast.

Also looking at it carrying Electricity and Mail (mail represents sending a telegraph, internet emails, text messages).

This image show roughly what I have achieved so far. Can see a spark on the wires that represent electricty.
Electricity.png
Electricity.png (80.2 KiB) Viewed 1443 times
You can TEST it if like but rememebr it a long way from being finished.

At the moment no industries accept or produce electricity. I want to make sure I can get this electricty wire idea working properly first.

EDITED (21/4/25)

I've removed the electric wires from the industry set and will make it a separate set it can be used any where.

I've been making changes the Industry set. See new post below.

Subject: I added Electricity as a cargo to the industry set.

Been suggested by a friend that I do the wires as separate set first.

I did start that many years ago so guess I should finish it.

Make it so can be used with other inductry sets for carrying MAIL.

So shall see what I can do about it.

What I had sone so far.
The buildings and poles attached to the main wires act the same as platforms to allow for sending and receiving mail.

You may be able to get some inspiration from these two grf's:
WIRES:
viewtopic.php?p=1167735#p1167735
Aimed at transporting electricity
WIRED:
viewtopic.php?p=1152174#p1152174
Aimed at transporting data

On the other hand, what about doing it as tramlines?
That would save you dealing with signals and the need to build lines to bring the carriers back.
And you would maybe be able to place them over roads, which could look more realistic (with pylons/wire next to the road ofcourse)
Crossings would also be more "realistic" as it is a bit weird if RVs have to wait for the (train)carriers to pass.
Having these more or less invisible (tram)carriers wait for a train is visually better in my opinion..

Both allowed me to use there source started back in 2017. But got side tracked and forgot all about them.

Just when I was working on the Industry set recently I remembered all about them cause I had code 63 for cargos reserved for that purpose.
On the other hand, what about doing it as tramlines?
That sounds a good idea. Only problem I can think of is the poles being only 1 tile apart so not sure how that will look unless I can do do to sets one with and one without poles than players can make and place poles where they wish.

While the idea in my head see what I ca do about it.

Think about your ideas today and now wonder if power poles and wires be better as roads that way intersections be easy to construct and also for slopes.

The electricity and telegraph can be vehicles designed as sparks. Just getting these to travel along the wire be a bit of fun but I think it can be done.

Could use a few different power poles for the novelty as well such as these.

This may indeed be a major issue...
With them being so close to each other, I think you may need a different design for the poles/wires.
With that I mean that they should be as small/short as possible. And maybe only have 1 or max 2 wires.
So the big poles with loads of wires like you just posted would look way too busy.

That why I think of roads. 1 road will just have poles and a second road with the wires. Design it with the wires and then place the poles how ever far apart player wants them.
If use roads it has the curves, slopes, T-junctions, cross over junctions and the end bits. That why I think it MIGHT be best to try.
I hope try soon and arrange some vehicle sparks to see if I can get them to ride along the top wires.

Maybe could do similar with tram tracks.
So the big poles with loads of wires like you just posted would look way too busy.
The sparks will only travel along the top wire. The rest below the top wire just for show.
But first I try the road idea. But before I start got a lot of thinking to do and planning.

Cheers

EDIT:
Just throught of a problem whether we use roads or trams is the Truck Stations for loading and unloading the mail and electricity. Not sure if can make a special on for my idea.

Auz Wires - Electricity and Telegrapgh Lines

Auzwires.grf
While I ponder on the idea making mail and electricty poles as roads or trams I though I work on the rail set first and offer a separate GRF so can be used with your towns.

Wonder if you like to TEST what I done and let me know what you think and maybe a idea or two.
Just hope the industry set your using is using the same ID code .. item(FEAT_CARGOS, mail, 2) {

Main problem with these is crossing rivers and water ways as they use normal bridges and the speed of such bridges. Or you can tunnel under things but I still got some work to do with tunnels.

Future plans for this set:
* The platform pieces I plan to make the poles to suit the main wires.
* Have a variety of Depots and the platform huts.
* Have the wires of different types to suit the capacity of the . (See diagram of 4 I hope to use a few posts back plus a few more).

In this diagram shows two towns connected with the telegraph lines.
Also shows the 6 different sparks available to transport the Mail (and Electricty if your industry sets produced this)
They each become available different years .. the first in 1837 and carries 10 bags of mail.
Heres list of years available and capacity.
* DC Transmitter 1837 10 bags
* AC Transmitter 1890 20 bags
* High Voltage AC Transmitter 1907 40 bags
* Very High Voltage AC Transmitter 1923 80 bags
* Extra High Voltage AC Transmitter 1953 150 bags
* Ultra High Voltage AC Transmitter 1982 250 bags

You will also need this grf as it contains the platforms.
Reason it is separate is because it coded in NFO and the other is coded in NML.

I up loaded the wrong one. Try this one as it has the post office and telegraph office.

Auz Farming Industry Set

Still fiddling with this set.

Looking at idea having amonument or some other small building that will build in town and represent all the whole town and accept cargos that a town would accept. (If that makes sence). It will also reduce the number of industries I would need in the set to build in towns.

At moment I have a Monument that accepts Food, Goods, Parcels, Beer, Vehicle, Fish, Meat, Fruit, Vegetables, Petrol, Gas, Furniture, Merchandise, Dairy Produces, Processed Foods and Soft Drinks.

Whatcha think?

Not sure if one thing would serve all goods equally well.

Also, a monument (pillar, flagpole, ?!?) with a freight station next to it might look a bit strange.

What about three different single-tile buildings:

Gas station: Petrol, Gas, Vehicle
Post Office: Parcels, Goods, Merchandise
Shop: all the rest

Could make the gas station appear only after 1920 or 1930 not to disrupt games with a very early start while making post office and shop sufficiently "neutral-looking" that it could be both late 19th and mid-20th century? Maybe style it rather old - and then is preserved as a "heritage building" into the 2000s ?!?

Thanks you for your reply.
I don't see it be any difference if a railway station is placed close to a town for passengers, mail, food and goods.

I was thinking how things used to be when I work on the railways in the 1970, 80 and 90s. Cargo got delivered to railways stations then gets transported by road to commercials in town. The monuments produe parcels which can be taken to the railway stations for delivery elsewhere.
What about three different single-tile buildings:
Not a bad idea if my plan gets stuck.

I hoping to reduce the amount of industries that build in a town. Players can use my AuzTownSetIndv14 (Auz Town Commercial Set v14) to put a variety of other building in towns if they wish.
