It's still possible to give some public SVN access that needs a compilation to run in TTD. In this case, only testers will try it and nobody will consider it as "finished".michael blunck wrote:@felixzero
The problem with making sets publicly available for testing is that they´ll remain available on the net forever.

Yeah, some people know what they´re talking about.andythenorth wrote:"Release early, release often?"

Doesn't really matter, as Snail said, anyone who wants to test it need just ask.felixzero wrote:It's still possible to give some public SVN access that needs a compilation to run in TTD. In this case, only testers will try it and nobody will consider it as "finished".michael blunck wrote:@felixzero

Do you have a tracking table somewhere?

Well, sort of. Unfortunately due to a server crash some time ago the site went down and work on the pages went into limbo. With the current NG developments, the site will have to be revived, however there are other projects as well as real life under way so it will probably be a while before the doors reopen here.kyosuke1989 wrote:Do you have a tracking table somewhere?

Re: "French Trains Set - freight rolling stock needs drawing
Whatever happened to this set?
I was directed here by a link in another thread a few days ago. I read the whole thread from start to finish, there was so much enthusiasm and excitement for this set, and then it just stopped - over 5 years ago!
Seem like such a waste. And a crying shame. There's some great graphics here, and lots of people did a lot of work and research.
I know some of you guys are still around, so what happened? Snail? Wallyweb? Bueller?
Pete.

This set is not dead (yet)... We only decided to do the narrow gauge trains first.
Work on that set is almost finished, after which I'll get back to work on the standard gauge part.
(I know it's probably not the answer you had hoped for, but anyway

Hello,
This set if one of the many sets that was never released.
On November 2021 at least Snail was still working on it, but we never got any news from then.
Is it possible to have a chance to get it released? May I and some other people should try to help.
I started to grab graphics from this thread and the Excel file Snail shared.
I'm pretty sure I can't do all the job alone, but I could try to write my own set based on those existing graphics (I can't draw) and at least build a playable list of trains with those graphics.
For the graphics with no copyright information, can I simply use them and add a thanks message in the GRF description? I think it would be quite hard to ask all the author as some surely has retired...

Well, Snail and jvassie are still active forum members, so maybe send them a message?

Best of luck to you with this pursuit! Unfortunately, there are quite a few copyright purists who are offended by the idea of using any work done by others without their direct permission, even when credited, so you'll definitely run into some opposition on that point. Obviously I personally think this is ridiculous given that the whole TTD project at this point is in a grey area at best of copyright law. Hope it works out though, I'd love to see a functional French set, they have some fantastic and unique trains.
But at the very least, you should make every reasonable attempt to contact the original artists, and give them full and detailed credit no matter what.

Re: "French Trains Set - freight rolling stock needs drawing
Work in progress.
All steam engines are animated and have their tenders when provided.
Right now there is no alternate liveries (I know how to load the graphics but I don't know how to use some livery when the engine is built after a certain date by example).
But all specs are according to the Snail's Excel file (and some adjustments from Wikipedia).
No cargo restriction right now (with only one pax coach, it's quite hard to check my code anyway
)
-- Edit : animation added
Added a few engines. I really need to rework sprites alignments... Here is the github repository : https://github.com/SylvainDevidal/SNCF.git
Only graphics with authors agreements are committed there.
So if someone want to participate he needs to find his own graphics to be able to compile. Sorry, I wouldn't offense respective authors before they have a chance to give their agreement

Hello,
@Gwyd has also made a few trains, especially those in the Ile-de-France region but also outside : viewtopic.php?t=82948
I don't know if this could help in any way, though.

Re: "French Trains Set - freight rolling stock needs drawing
Yes I already use this set in my games, but it's very incomplete:
- Only passengers trains
- Only modern (currently used at least) trains
In a first time I will mainly focus on non-existing stuffs, and in a second time I would add already existing contents to get a complete standalone pack : mixing sets is often frustrating as they are not balanced to work together so at the end you mostly use trains from only one set.
