I've never tried making a station larger than that, but what happens if you do?

Just a red error message saying that station is too large, nothing special.

Very large values for the station spread limit can lead to spectacular abuse of station walking. If you want to do something similar, you would be better off learning to use feeder services.

On the other hand, if you want to simulate extremely long and heavy trains, consider increasing the cargo weight multiplier.

What who does in their own offline game is none of your business. ;)

If you have long and heavy trains, you don't need any artificial multiplier.

Anyway, I'd love to see the actual use of the current limits. :)
I once managed to get closer to it, building a hub station connecting all the cities on the map, the population of which was almost 3 million. The station was 58x58. I didn't finish it, and maybe if I got all the connections running, the station might actually be too small. :)
