I'm not sure that's much of an endorsement.

Do you want the full "hard brexit" or a "soft brexit" instead?SkeedR wrote:I voted Brexit and I'm still happy with my decision.
As much as I wanted to remain in the EU, and I voted to remain, on speaking with a lot of people who voted for Brexit, I can certainly understand where they were coming from when they voted. Just last week I was talking to someone who worked on Customs for the Chunnel, and he gave me his reasons for voting leave.
Yep, and a lot of people in America voted for the Cheeto Man Baby who is now in charge of your country, so that says a lot about America And I mean a lot. (because, apparently, if I don't repeat the key part, Americans don't understand it)Train<In>Vain wrote:A lot of people in America are on your side. And I mean a lot.

I'd like to see a Brexit that benefits the general populace of the UK, in whatever form that takes. The EU should honour the referendum result as much as the Conservative Party [Side note, I also voted Labour in the hope that people would see sense and get the Conservatives out of Govt, but that didn't turn out too well]. I can understand that people feel there is a lot of good reasons for remaining in the EU, but I can also see value in leaving the EU.Pilot wrote:Do you want the full "hard brexit" or a "soft brexit" instead?SkeedR wrote:I voted Brexit and I'm still happy with my decision.

...
Also, I don't get how people can keep saying that it's going to be bad, yet at the same time, no one knows exactly how it will be bad. No country has ever left the EU and from my perspective it's simply a way to push several nations into one giant nation. Eventually it'll be Europe, the nation.

Re: Unpopular Opinions
Probably another quite unpopular opinion, but personally I don't see anything wrong with that. If it were up to me we already would have been a united nation of countries. Of course under a socialist rule with a limited free market and a non-influence-able political system to prevent massive "denivellering" like it is so rampant in the US.SkeedR wrote:Eventually it'll be Europe, the nation.
If you don't mind me asking, are you? And is it different than for instance Texas seceding for you?Train<In>Vain wrote:A lot of people in America are on your side. And I mean a lot.
Also, just to ask and clarify this statement:

Regarding Brexit : The only thing bad about Brexit is that nobody carries on from it. If only you british would keep the hard upper lip and wholy commit to your doings... !

I used to live in Wales. Every other piece of modern infrastructure had "funded by the EU" or something to that effect on it.

Amusingly enough, a lot of the places up north that are hugely funded by the EU, or EU contribution in one way or another voted to Brexit the most.Gwyd wrote:I used to live in Wales. Every other piece of modern infrastructure had "funded by the EU" or something to that effect on it.
Biting the hand that feeds them.
Brexit is something that should never have gone to the public to vote, and kept entirely behind closed doors and members of Government and some expert professionals.

I thought it's more "Welsh Assembly Government" or something ?Gwyd wrote:I used to live in Wales. Every other piece of modern infrastructure had "funded by the EU" or something to that effect on it.

Re: Unpopular Opinions
Wales has a devolved government, but its mostly (entirely?) funded by the UK Government + the taxes of the Welsh residents and the EU patches in some extra.
The EU often helps fund other structures and buildings, usually those that benefit the public as a whole, 'social' sort of thing.
I wonder if the Government has a plan for all those social fund things the EU used to help out with. I'm sure the Brexiteers thought about that before they voted leave, just like they surely thought about the NHS and all the foreign nurses going back to their native countries to help their own health service instead.
Yeah. I'm sure they all thought that far ahead.

I want to ask, why would the nurses leave, but the fools who voted Conservatives have allowed a government who apparently want to dismantle the NHS to continue doing so.Redirect Left wrote:Wales has a devolved government, but its mostly (entirely?) funded by the UK Government + the taxes of the Welsh residents and the EU patches in some extra.

You don't need to think of them back then - but you definitely need to think of that NOW.Redirect Left wrote:Wales has a devolved government, but its mostly (entirely?) funded by the UK Government + the taxes of the Welsh residents and the EU patches in some extra.

Again - Why don't you people just look forward ? Like, I don't know :
- Alternative source : Commonwealth - more ties ?
- Ireland - surely this has more to with adding asterisks I'm sure. They're not part of Schengen anyway.
- Trading with Europe : How much does the UK really import from Europe ? If there's some, I'm sure it's talkable.
- Requests from EU : Standard playground threatening. Just ask things back.
Really. I don't see a problem whether you guys voted remain or leave as long as people are comitted to the results, and work accordingly, not just bickering why the result's a bit uncomfortable.

Re: Unpopular Opinions
I agree that there are many trade routes opened by not being part of the EU. However, I disagree with "how much does the UK import form Europe anyway?". Ever since a certain Margret was in government, the UK was to rely on the services industry, so much manufacturing was shut down and we were to rely on extra wealth to buy in what we can't make. Like many cars. And certain foods. And some trains. And lots and lots of other things that EU countries can make, that we can't. (See Germany)

Re: Unpopular Opinions
When a lawfully conducted vote is held, I respect the outcome even when I don't agree with it. If the Constitution has provisions for a state to secede from the union, and the voters of Texas follow that process correctly and secede, then I would support that outcome.lobster wrote:

Rhetorical question not requiring an answer, you've apparently overexerted yourself crafting your "witty" reply.

There are two figures for this.YNM wrote: - Trading with Europe : How much does the UK really import from Europe ? If there's some, I'm sure it's talkable.
According to UK sources, we import £290B worth of stuff from the EU.
According to EU sources, we import £390B worht of stuff from the EU.
The most important thing we do, is we import a lot of food stuffs from Europe. The UK is currently not self sufficient if we were forced to eat everything and only everything made from within the UK.

1. Getting out from EU doesn't mean no bussiness at all. For god sake your country have veto powers in the UN, if EU ever embargo yours !Redirect Left wrote:There are two figures for this.

2. Again, are you sure those Europeans themself don't import from somewhere else ?
3. You have two years. Guess how much we got going in two years...
I'm more than sure you can get them done.
Mayhaps Mrs. May pulled the trigger a bit too early, but you can attempt to run still.

I feel it'd be a risk for the EU to make it expensive for us to import things
