FYI I made some ekranoplan graphics several years ago: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=39188Digitalfox wrote:I just watched a documentary about http://wingship.com/ !
Speed's up to 180KM/h and starting at 50 up to 150 passengers!
Not only it has been built, it's already on testing on waters.
This would make a great addition to the set
What do you think Andy?

Nice!

Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty.
That good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed

Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
Today I played with a combination of Fish and Squid, mainly to access the Rockall and Tyskebukta freighters. Is there any hope for a resurrection of those two ships in Squid? The Rockall / Meteor ought to be available from say 1910 and the Tyskebukta from say 1920 (like the Eddystone, with a comparable speed), none of them should expire. Then the 'Cumbrae could be retired around 1950, when the Age of Steam was definitely over. The Marstein is a one-to-one replacement for the Altamira (smaller but faster), and they should follow about the same timeline, or somewhat later.
Today, there's no small seagoing freighter in Squid after the 'Cumbrae expires around 1970. I'm using the Whitgift a lot for eg. sand and stone from dredging sites, but it feels plain wrong to run this little stick across open water.
That being said, I would like to express a huge thank you to you, andythenorth, for your awesome contributions to this game!

Eh, what is expiring? That sounds like a bug.

Ok the expiring Little Cumbrae was a bug. But instead of fixing it, I've added another ship to replace it in 1968 - Meteor freighter, 100t, 26mph. Gameplay-wise it's a direct substitute for Little Cumbrae.
Test grf attached.

Thank you very much! Testing right now with an old savegame from 1960.andythenorth wrote:Ok the expiring Little Cumbrae was a bug. But instead of fixing it, I've added another ship to replace it in 1968 - Meteor freighter, 100t, 26mph. Gameplay-wise it's a direct substitute for Little Cumbrae.

EDIT: In this game I have a route of Eddystones freighting alcohol. Now it's 1965, and I can't replace them with the new Provence Edibles. I suppose that I have to swap them for Altamiras first. In a normal game this of course shouldn't be an issue.
EDIT: I'm now in 1978, and everything works great. The Little Cumbrae is long gone from the roster. This incarnation of the Meteor is a very useful addition to Squid, at least in the FIRS economy.

I noticed following interesting screenshot:
http://dev.openttdcoop.org/attachments/ ... pes_4v.png
How exactly it is working? Is it possible for current openttd version or need a patch?

The image name gives it away already: cargo subtypes. And as the code is open source: just have a look there
Basically implement the cargo subtype callback (cargo_subtype_text) and return the appropriate string.

I know what cargo_subtype is, my question was how to use different subtype strings for different cargo group without these (+) signs.planetmaker wrote: Basically implement the cargo subtype callback (cargo_subtype_text) and return the appropriate string.
Is it possible to have one subtype active for the given cargo, and other one eclusively for other cargo?
Tried to figure out from Fish source, but unfortunatelly I'm not familiar with python scripts.
Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
Run the script, and check the resulting nml?
Being a retired OpenTTD developer does not mean I know what I am doing.
Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
Resulting nml show only CB_RETURN_NO_TEXT - seems that subtype feature was only tested and abandoned.
Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
Yes, the callback that defines the subtypes/texts can check the cargo type. (Though I won't guarantee a proper behaviour for vehicles with mixed cargo types)McZapkie wrote:Is it possible to have one subtype active for the given cargo, and other one eclusively for other cargo?

Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
Well, so it works that way.frosch wrote:Yes, the callback that defines the subtypes/texts can check the cargo type.
I thought that it was possible to redefine cargo acceptance via subtype switch (for example, ship refitted to tanks can accept only liquids, refitted to cabs can accept only passengers, etc)
Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
the autorefit callback can probably do that, but it may be difficult to convey that behaviour to the user. also, you need to handle cargo types properly that set more than one cargo class.
Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
I have a small request. The Eddystone tanker is a great ship when it arrives in 1920. As I'm using FIRS, mostly with base level production oil wells and platforms, the larger tankers are seldom very useful. But in the 60s, Li'l Eddie is totally outperformed by the Marstein general freighter. I wonder if it's possible to get a slightly faster version of Eddie by then?

Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
I completely agree. Dan and I have a plan to adjust the tankers for game balance. No estimate on when that will be done, summer months are slow for OTTD stuffleifbk wrote:...Eddie is totally outperformed by the Marstein general freighter...

Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
It's completely realistic. Eddi is not particularly well known for his speed.
Re: [OTTD] FISH....FISH FISH FISH FISH (work in progress)
It may be an illusion, but to me the Altamira seems to dig her bow into the water when seen from the side.
