there can only be one override GRF active at any time.
Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
I tried Nekko's parameter settings, and I'm using both at the same time in my SP game. Seems to work alrightEddi wrote:there can only be one override GRF active at any time.

With the parameters I posted, if you change the number before the 5 (0 7 1 1 5 1 ) you can change the livery.Pack man wrote:I tried Nekko's parameter settings, and I'm using both at the same time in my SP game. Seems to work alrightEddi wrote:there can only be one override GRF active at any time.

Thank you for this. Part of my issue is I haven't been able to track down a copy of the parameters and their functions, as PikkaWiki for me doesn't load properly.

Is there another place I might be able to find some documentation on the parameters?

PikkaWiki is pretty broken.
FWIW I'm hoping to release an update to NARS pretty soon that will make manually setting parameters unnecessary. Amongst a few other changes.

So there is some progress in one off North American stuff after all! Good to hear that!PikkaBird wrote:FWIW I'm hoping to release an update to NARS pretty soon that will make manually setting parameters unnecessary. Amongst a few other changes.

Will it include any of the locos I (me and Packer are the same person) did?

Can you explain why when I have used this GRF that I have to click full load any cargo, not just full load?
Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
Isn't that OpenTTD related topic? It has been so every grf what I have play with. Am I wrong?Morgs wrote:Can you explain why when I have used this GRF that I have to click full load any cargo, not just full load?

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
It's because the regearing feature (not a BAD one if you ask me) introduces a "fake cargo".Morgs wrote:Can you explain why when I have used this GRF that I have to click full load any cargo, not just full load?
Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
It's because this set (at least the current version) has many locomotives that have regearing capability. Pikka enabled this by using cargo type - repearing is considered a cargo that's hauled by locomotives. But of course, there is no industries that will produce such cargo as "regearing". So if you select Full Load, then the train will forever wait for this non-existing regearing cargo to fill the train.Morgs wrote:Can you explain why when I have used this GRF that I have to click full load any cargo, not just full load?

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
One presumes the reliance on a fake cargo is a FACULTAS MALA that will be removed in theoretical subsequent versions of NARS (while still keeping the regearing feature itself, of course).Sylf wrote:It's because this set (at least the current version) has many locomotives that have regearing capability. How does regearing work?
Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
"regearing" was an old method to reduce the number of vehicle types, to both ease the use of the vehicle list and not hit the limit of vehicle types. but it has a lot of negative side effects.
since you can now filter the vehicle list better, and the allowed number of vehicle types is vastly increased, there is no reason to use "regearing" of this kind anymore. if there is a stat upgrade, just introduce a new vehicle (with new prototype, new reliability, etc.)

Out of curiosity, have you ever considered adding an ETD as a generational update to the caboose?

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.03 28 Aug 09]
I'd really like to see the locomotives Packman added in the forums. I know its more work pikka, but it'll make NARS so much better to have some more variety
Too bad we can't have a Motive Power Industries MP40 or MP36 but no ones made a sprite for that in NARS 2 style.
Anyways, regearing allows locomotives to travel faster or slower at the expense of lowering or raising the TE.
For example, this is fictional numbers....
60 Mph (96 kph) @ 300 Kn TE
65 Mph (104 kph) @ 256 kN TE
70 Mph (112 kph) @ 211 kN TE
80 Mph (128 kph) @ 199 kN TE
Think of regearing as changing gears (semi-permanatly) on a bike. Lower your gear and it becomes easier to peddle and speed up but your max speed will be much lower then if you hiked your gear up to sixth/seventh gear and peddled, which would be harder but you'd go faster in the end with less effort once your up to speed.
IRL gearing locomotives is normally done at the manufacturer and changes the gear ratios between the traction motor and the driving axle gears. A big gear on the motor and a smaller gear on the driving axle will make for higher speed but lower traction as the locomotive will have to push harder to speed up (and thus possibly wheel slipping).
Heavy frieght will usually make due with lower gearings thus the train will have traction to accelerate faster
Express trains will benifit from higher gearings if you give them space to speed up.
I'm no expert at this kind of thing, so forgive me if I'm wrong (This is what I gather from locomotive gearing)

The later wagons should show ETDs when used without a caboose.Kaiser-NA wrote:Out of curiosity, have you ever considered adding an ETD as a generational update to the caboose?

I didn't include any of your graphics, Pack man. However, this new update is much simpler, codewise, than the old NARS2, and I'll probably release the source code too, meaning that coding well-matching 3rd party addons should be a much easier proposition.
